still haven't gotten anywere with my torque screw. i will deal with that at a later date. just want to get this thing going again.
today i got my turbo on, x-over pipe on, down pipe on, bunch of odds and ends done on the engine, coolant filter mount made and painted. that will be put on on tuesday and then fill the coolant and oil. also got my hood back on.
thanks guys. yeah it feels great to finally hear and see this thing running again. i really can't believe how smooth this engine runs. now that my up-pipe is not leaking i can hear the engine good. sounds so nice! it should hit the road tomorrow.
I would take some vids but i don't have a vid cam that is any good at picking up sound.
what kind of thread sealant would be best for the fittings on the coolant filter? i used liquid thread sealant with PTFE.
I took the truck for a short drive today. thing sounds mean. it is SO NICE being able to hear the exhaust rather than the exhaust leaks. i need to advance my timing some though. Runs good otherwise. Hit 9psi easy today.
Turn that wastegate in 94! You will really enjoy the extra boost and the whistle! Got mine hitting 11, 12 when I'm pulling a load hard. 2-3 when i'm cruising at 55-60 mph. Cant wait to stud mine! Now you need some FUEL!
no i haven't touched the torque screw yet. maybe next week. i can hit 9 psi easy getting on it. i also cruise at about 2-3psi. yeah, too bad my IP is "new".
today was the first long drive in the truck. i got to work and walked in and a guy i worked with said my truck smelt like coolant when i went by the shop. at first i thought he was screwing with me. he said no he wasn't. so i go out and sure enough i was leaking pretty good around the heater core. well i had to get to work. he got out early and started my truck up and looked it over for me. found that one of the clamps for the hose that feeds the heater core was loose. tightened that up and good to go.
when i got home i looked all the coolant lines over again and had a big puddle under the rad. well the clamp for the lower rad hose to the block is loose. i will tighten that up tomorrow.
That torque screw really makes no noticeable difference anyway. it won't change how fast the turbo spools and won't change how much boost you make. I left mine threaded two threads in and then all the way in and nothing i could notice.
And my pump was fine because i could touch 15psi without a load.
