Brakes/V10 to Hydro Boost
I have a 2000 V10 Excursion. It does not stop as well as my diesel. Has any one tried to convert a V10 to Hydro boost from a diesel. I know it can be done with after market parts,a lot big motor Hot Rods do it because of vacuum problems. So can it be done with oem Hydro booster from like a 7.3? Pics if possible.

I cant believe that nobody has done this... The brakes on one of the trucks at work, 05 f350 6.0 4x4, stops 100 times better even with a 4000 lb load of salt in the spreader and the plow on the front. I'd love to have the hydroboost and brakes from an 05+ diesel on my X. ANYONE??????

It's been awhile since I've been on the L boards, but I think a couple of my Lightning brethren converted their brakes to hydro boost.
It's a supercharged 5.4L and not the 6.8L but I can't imagine it would be that different.
I'll do some searches on my old L boards and see if I can find anything relevant.

7.3's have hydro boost because the 7.3 engines don't produce vacuum like gas engines.
What kind of problems are you having with your brakes?

a bunch of guys with the 70's fords and broncos convert, I'm in that forum and its not that uncommon a mod. Its not rocket science... you just gotta get the booster and run hydro to it. I'm not sure if the power steering off the gas trucks is tapped for it, probably not, so you would probably have to tap it for a new fitting or run some kind of T off the high and low pressure lines for the hydro boost.

I did this swap on my Trans Am. It's pretty simple, no need to tap anything just T off the lines. If you can find it at a salvage, get the whole setup with the master, then you just unbolt the Vac booster bolt up the hydro booster and connect the lines. Bleed brakes and your done.
In fact, you probably NEED to get the master because the bore size will likely be different from the Vac booster model.

It just doesn't stop nearly as well as I'd like it to. I may just simply be that I am picky, but it just doesn't stop as fast as I'd like. My hubby's brakes were much faster to stop. And they SQUEAL. Constantly, but someone else told me it's because I live out in the sand and that there is nothing I can do to stop it, they checked my rotors/brakes and everything looked fine so it's not that.

I also felt like the brakes on my V10 did not stop as well as on my 6.0l so I went ahead and changed my brake pads to EBC yellows stuff even though the old pads still had plenty of life left in them. I am following the bedding instructions which states to use the brakes very lightly for the first 200 miles so I'm not sure if there is any improvement yet. I did not realize that the two trucks had different braking systems and now realize that I may have just wasted some money. I may have to look into the hydroboost swap to get the braking that I am looking for.

I know the thread is old but, for anyone wondering if you can hydroboost these trucks with oem parts the answer is yes. I just finished a 2003 X 2 weeks ago using all stock parts.
Get the pressure lines from a 99-04 (order them new) F-450 with the V10 cost is $43.00 for both and are a direct fit.
Get the booster from a 99-04 Diesel F250 F350 F450 F550 or X it bolts right in place of the vacuum booster. Ebay has them for 60-80.00 shipped
Reuse the master cylinder as its the correct one already
Then simply place a brass T in the return line of the reservoir and thats it.
Total time start to finish is about 2.5 hours as the hardest part is pulling the PS pump off to change the hose. Super simple and great upgrade, I am now starting on converting my F150 to hydroboost also using the above parts and so far its all a direct fit.

Thats totally awesome. BUT I could have sworn that there was a problem with getting one of the pushrods or something. Again it was something that didnt come with a new unit and cant get it from the dealer unless you buy the entire unit.I never realized that the 450 and 550 v10 trucks came with hydroboost. im going to the dealer today. THANKS FOR THE WRITEUP. REPS TO YOU. Hows the difference. Doss it stop better or does the pedal just feel firmer?
