Well my 85 gets around 18.5 highway and 16.75 combined. That's running 60-65 mpg. It's got the 3+OD and 3.55 gears with 235/75 tires. Took some work to get it there. It was doing 12-13 combined, maybe 14 on a good day.
well I just got an '86 F150 W/ 4.9 Carbed, T-18. 3.08 Cogs. and I get about 26- 27 MPG highway, and I'm pulling 18-19 MPG around town. But, First thing I did was complete Tune up. Plugs, Cap, Rotor, (complete distributor too, the PIP was out), Ignition module, Coil. then I timed the engine to 12* BTDC. I also rebuilt the feedback carb on it. I know this is all out of the ordinary for these trucks, but as long as you drive like an intelligent human being and keep your foot out of the Gas, you'll do a lot better.
Gary's hoping for 14 MPG with Dad's truck. It's been getting 10 no matter where and how I drive it. But, I suspect that moving the initial timing from 10 degrees AFTER to 16 degrees BEFORE, adding 24 more degrees of vacuum advance, and fixing the vacuum leaks caused by blown vacuum diaphragms on the advance an EGR units will make a tad bit of difference. Going on a ~100 mile trip Saturday to pick up a ZF5, hopefully, and sure expect to see an improvement.
Then, when I've done the brakes so they don't drag as they now are, rebuilt the carb so the power valve doesn't leak as it now does, maybe it'll get a bit more. Then the ZF's lack of torque converter loss as well as the OD, and maybe we are looking at 16.
Do they consist of donkeys, and midgets in Full midievel armor? because if so, I wanna compare notes!!!
Well, back when I was on the patch quitting smoking, I had a dream that involved Hulk Hogan, William Shatner, the Power Rangers, and the Teletubbies all doing a burlesque-style dance routine in the middle of the street and singing a song about the meaning of life.....
But........ Back to our regularly scheduled programming!
I 'spect y'all don't want to hear about my wet dreams. Then you'll /know/ how weird I am, not just suspect it. =:O
So long as they don't involve children or farm animals, I'm cool with it.
Please be mindful of Gary's bladder-control problem, though - "wet dreams" have an entirely different meaning for him and we don't want to embarrass him, OK? Thanks!

What I want to know is who has been talking! Who told you that?

YOU did!
Don't you remember? When you were telling me how the only store within 75 miles of Podunk was out of Depends® and how much of a problem it had become and how you've soiled the bed and your wife makes you sleep with the dog on the (now-smelly) couch?
And, how you have to get so many new clothes because of all the incontinence stains?

Boy! I thought my memory was better than that. You'd think I'd remember saying something like that. Or, better yet, I should remember to keep my mouth shut.
But, that explains why the dog won't get close to me anymore. And, it explains why my wife is so generously donating the couch to the shop. Not only that, now I understand why I have so many "shop clothes".
Gotta admit, having told someone has helped two ways. First, it made me feel better, kinda like confession. Second, it has helped me understand why several things are happening. So, maybe we should have a "confessions" thread?
Put on a set of plug wires today, checked timing, was and is 10BTDC Drove it to work all week and it runs out great. Filled it up yesterday and will check MPG at the end of next week. Going to tweak the carb a little tomorrow using the tach as a reference for rpm. While I had the timing light out I put it on my 82 manual and it was set at 2 ATDC, reset to 8 BTDC. This is the truck I drove to work the last 13 years and averaged 15mpg. Took it for a spin and could feel the difference. Why do we forget about the ones we love the most?
