6.0 Intercooler

What's all involved to put on a 6.0 intercooler and what are the benefits, lower EGTs?

You'll need the intercooler, new boots (the stock boots are too short, and the inlet on the 6.0L intercooler is smaller), and you'll need to relocate or replace the stock trans cooler.

As for EGT's, I saw a max 100 degree drop when working the engine really hard. For less than $200, it was worth it. Expect to spend another $1000 more for an aftermarket intercooler that will drop EGT's at most an additional 100 degrees above the stock 6.0L intercooler.

Now if you have aftermarket injectors, or plan to in the future, skip the 6.0L intercooler. It just won't be enough.

Thanks, I just came across this one and was curious.

I just found that same ebay listing and was getting ready to post up about it. I've bought stuff from this guy before and he's really good to deal with.

What did you get from him?

strokersace 02-27-2009 04:36 PM

I bought a lower dash section and cupholder for the 05-07 superduties so I could install upfitters. My original 05 panel got screwed up, so I bought another one from him. Good to deal with.

Cool, good to know Ryan, thanks.

I had a similar thread going (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...tercooler.html) and will end up putting one in myself. Looking around I found this Th!nk Parts Guy/FTE Parts Guy at the FTE Parts Guy and want to be sure it is the right one to go with. In my thread, IDPisan had a great writeup (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ml) that I will be using, including parts list and pictures.

That is an awesome write up.

Automator 02-27-2009 06:26 PM

IDPisan did a great job, don't forget to Rep him if it helped you.

Adam0331 02-27-2009 06:28 PM

Sure thing. That write up is very good. Bookmarked.

He used the later cooler with the production from 9/22/03 and that one is a little less expensive too. I didn't quote you on the other parts.

Ed, I will be contacting you again to go over this after my truck gets back. Saw it sitting in the shop lot today and got a little excited so I drove over to look. Unfortunately, the motor is still out of it. They estimated it would be ready to pickup on Tuesday, but since the heads were still at the machine shop, they couldn't say for sure.
