Forscan vs AE vs TQ Pro for logging

I have seen alot of Tugly and others screenshots of logs and am wondering which is best for analyzing data and diagnosing. I really like some of Rich's screenshots and am wondering what program they cam from.

Also, I have a OBDII dongle and torque pro, a Win 7 laptop, Several tablets, an Autel Maxis Elite, and a Snap-On Verus Pro.

Thanks!

Forscan will do just about anything AE can do.

Forscan is cheap/free, AE is expensive.

AE is old school and a bit difficult to navigate.

TP is good for monitoring and a nightmare to use troubleshooting.

TP is pretty and Forscan is ugly.

TP is temperamental and Forscan works every time.

All that said, most of us use TP for monitoring and Forscan or Forscan Lite for troubleshooting. I have stopped using TP altogether because I got frustrated with it. I don't monitor anything anymore other than what the gauges tell me. I do travel with 2 OBD tools, a netbook with Forscan, a tablet with Forscan Lite and a host of other crap to identify and maybe fix anything that arises.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Zach, read that thread.

Thanks for the comparison Sous

What was this made with?

That is an AE screen - before the Giotto version ruined the software. I frequently use a spreadsheet to make graphs because I use so many PIDs, but that log only needed 4 PIDs to tell the tale. My version of AE maxed out at 4 graphs.

Once TP is dialed in, it's very stable. I just tap the icon on my phone and I expand my dash gauges by a count of 11.

Where does FS Lite come into play?

FS Lite is for use on Android devices such as tablets or phones. I don't know if it works on Apple because I will never own an Apple... :-duel1

It does work on the fruit devices. I did a quick check with my new OBDII adapter & iPad. Now I need to learn about PID’s.

Oh, and when my iPhone dies, I’m switching platforms!

Dude just switch to what you want. I have an iPhone 5 from my ex workplace. Completely unsupported last couple years, thing won't die. I just use it as an alarm clock now. Holds a charge well.

PID - Parameter IDentification. In other words, a fancy way to say "the stuff I wanna see". Boost is a PID, as is vehicle speed. Here's a primer on reading PIDs: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...roduction.html

Supposedly Foreskin can do a buzz test but TorquePro aka TP aka Toilet Paper cannot?

LOL that's exactly what my wife called it!

And yeah, Torque Pro cannot do a buzz test, while FORScan, all versions, can.

So, Forscan or lite for Apple? And I would love to get a thumbs up on the best adapter and cable to use so as not to get some crap knock off. Where's the best place to get them, as in reputable, not for price. A great price isn't great if the stuff is junk.

I use the mX plus, bought it off amazon. It’s a lite type scanner but using it as a Bluetooth to connect to your obd works great. It costs like $60 plus $50 for lifetime of forscan and you are go to go! It is also mscan and hscan compatible.

OBDLink MX has treated me very well over the years, on every vehicle I've tried it on. I would buy an MX+ if I were buying an adapter today.
