Description:
Hi all:
Selling this locally in the norcal / SF Bay area (Oakland, CA specifically).
I have a very well designed and built stealth campervan. It's fantastic.
Ford Econoline e250. 5.4L Triton V8 engine. Very strong and reliable.
125,572 miles.
CNG engines go 500,000-650,000 miles easily as they don't wear.
Beautiful aftermarket mag wheels with larger profile tires. They look great, oversized and don't rub / hit the fenders.
I fully insulated the interior in the back with 1" rigid high insulating value sheets. These are the best R value insulation rated and best way to keep it warm in winter and cool in the summer. (I think they are R8 or R13 I sort of forget).
It has an insulated, padded floor with an 'Adrian Steel' brand rubber tool mat, underneath a 5' x 8' carpet.
The walls are covered with new luan untreated wood panel.
I spent a lot of time designing and building a very sturdy custom frame to maximize underneath storage for a full size bed. Bed and frame come with the van. Bed is 54" x 80" very spacious. It has about 3 feet of space in front of the bed.
These items took over 4 days to custom make by hand after doing all the prior design work and research.
It has an Adrian Steel full partition wall that separates the cockpit from the rear area. There is a door there as well, although it just needs $4 hinge set from HD to swing open and a locking mechanism can also be installed with a door handle if desired. I always kept the door bolted altogether as one wall, quieter during driving and safer for break ins.
It has an Adrian Steel lockbox with 2 keys in the front between the two seats. Very handy for storage.
I have not had to do much to this van since buying it, it runs like a champ!
-New Battery installed May 2018
-New oil cooler installed 2016 with about 3000 miles on it or less
-New coolant and flush 2016 with about 3000 miles on it or less
I used this van for west coast living for a week at a time or so. Where can you park it? ANYWHERE, that's where! I parked it right next to work in Silicon Valley right on the waterfront roads. Half Moon Bay right on the Pacific. It's completely STEALTH, and no one has any idea if you are in it or not. Super comfy in the back, I sleep great in it anywhere, the insulation really quiets out any nearby traffic.
CONS:
CNG Fueled!!! This is an issue to mention. CNG is not available at every station. AND the CNG tanks are expired. Which means to be fully legal new ones would need to be installed.
You could swap it to gasoline. I spent hundreds of hours researching this and posting about it online. So far at least 3 parties have used my findings and switched out their CNG vehicles to gasoline. The engines are identical - although the CNG valvetrain is hardened compared to a factory gasoline version but that's a very good thing. These CNG only engines have no wear in them at all after 100-200K miles compared to a gasoline engine (gas is dirty and deposits / carbon foul the engine slowly. CNG is ultra clean).
-It currently has a small crack in the upper radiator cooling plastic tank. That needs to be replaced. A whole radiator Spectra Premium is $109 at RockAuto. Simply replacing the plastic tanks is possible as well and cheaper. This may be something I can do for you prior to sale but that's to be determined.
I May FIX and replace the radiator soon. If so the price goes up to $1300 for the van. So act very soon if you want it cheaper with an easy repair to do.
PROS:
- CNG gives you clean fuel CARPOOL lane access! You can get the carpool pass sticker with this fuel.
-new installed Jasper transmission about 12,000 miles ago. 3 owners only. Full dealer maintained service records file on hand that's thick and detailed.
-Clean title. It is currently registered with it's NH owner (for 3 years). It was prior a CA registered vehicle. It had about $1000 in CA back fees. Those are not relevant to other states.
I called the California DMV and talked at length today about this. There are no back fees or penalties to re-register it in California now.
-Gorgeous body. This van was completely vinyl wrapped immediately by the plumber who bought it. I peeled all the vinyl off and the paint is like factory new. All the body panels are in superb shape. Always been a California kept vehicle so zero rust.
Another idea is to use this as a living space. It could be driven anywhere in the Bay Area and parked and lived in, or used for storage or both! Hey, I read about that guy who rented a 8'x'8 box in someone's living room for $600.
This is one time price and done!
I see dreamers all the time post campervans they built for sale for $5,000 - $12,000 and they can be much older vans too (!)
I took the Adrian Steel ladder racks off the roof (as seen in the pics with older wheels). They are currently stored in the van. I may include these for the asking price.
Email with questions and IF serious interest. Someone will get a great custom built van very very cheaply.
Some maintenance notes all with shop receipts:
28,687 *****all 8 spark plugs replaced ****T stat, coolant, CNG pump replaced.
62,038 rear differential serviced, new battery, air filter, front brakes serviced
80,597 ABS sensor new, front brake rotors resurfaced.
110,107 resurfaced rotors
110,117 NEW TRANSMISSION installed with warranty.
111,320 new front brake pads, new rear brake shoes, New starter
117,005 new rear brake shoe set, leaking 2 wheel cylinder fixed
125,000 current miles
YOU (Buyer): You can register this out of state. OR you are a mechanic / mechanically inclined or have friends. Or you want parts galore off this. Or a van to simply move very infrequently and live somewhere with / use as remote place to stay etc...
There is a very serious issue about the tanks being EXPIRED. It runs great. You can drive it. But technically it's not legal. AND CA as far as I understand demands a SMOG test to be passed before it can be registered in state. It would likely fail Smog since the tanks are expired. Tanks are not cheap to install. Many of us CNG people run into this specific issue. I am not selling it for this reason - I would have done the gasoline conversion myself and continued to register it out of state. BUT I no longer really work at all in the state of California. I'm east coast all the way now.
I need to sell this in the next 10 days. Otherwise I'm selling it cheaper to a good friend of mine.
PM me and I will respond. I will respond to all very interested parties and go over all the good and bad things in detail and answer questions. I want to be very clear here about what this van is and what it is not.
If interested in a gasoline conversion I can send you links to all my forum posts made HERE and the cngchat forum about it.
Parts I already have from a donor 2006 Ford e350 can be included with Van price if desired for gasoline conversion:
- gasoline tank fully loaded with working fuel pump, all valves, nozzles and tank mounting straps
- Complete gasoline fuel rail for the motor
- all gasoline fuel lines with fuel filter from engine all the way to gas tank.
- fuel filler neck (gasoline)
- EVAP emissions returns metal pipes. Switching valve near engine and mount.
- complete wiring harness from just above the transmission all the way to back of vehicle (gasoline version).
- 6 of 8 needed fuel injectors.
(For converting to gasoline Needed parts
- 1997 - 1998 gasoline PCM. This is required to run right. I see these easily out in NH for $50 all the time.
- fuel injectors - the gasoline versions. CNG is very different and won't run right.
I think that's all I still needed. The PCM was very different from the parts van I grabbed parts from and would not work. The fuel injectors were different too so I didn't grab those.
