Hey y'all. What's going on over here?
My name is Evan (or Brownie), I'm a active duty Corporal of Marines. I'm a Ground Radio Technician.
Pending a medical separation for a back injury right now, so if all goes well I'll be headed home to Oregon in a few months.

Talking to F350-6 and tseekins points, military medical as a whole took a downturn at one point because historically military medical providers could NOT be sued for malpractice. That all changed a number of years ago, and treatment became sort of "CAGEY" - nobody wanted to leave themselves open to a lawsuit when the laws reversed and military practitioners did a double-take. Collectively they must have suddenly thought: "Rut roh! I can get sued if I EFF this up..."
I think that had a lot to do with the quality of med-care.

I neither confirm nor deny that hookers may be involved - bring your own booze ya cheapskate!
*Snikkkerrezzz
Does anyone still have a ballcap from Olongapo that is embroidered with the saying:
"I love you no (S), but buy your own (F)ing drink..." ?
~I used to have one...

Now the military medical just doesn't want to actually help you. "Here's some Motrin and 2 weeks light duty. Hope you feel better."

Tell me about it - I destroyed the cartilage in one wrist in the gym on USS Carl Vinson one year, and that was the answer.
I give it this though - "CHUCKY VEE" was one helluvva ship to be on if you were into bodybuilding. CVN-70 was my best at sea tours.
I was on it when "CAP'N GEORGE" was running the show!

With me they tried that, then decided it would be better to give me narcotics for a few months to try to bring the pain down, THEN they finally did a MRI. Genius!

I can see where that's going....
(Quoting myself) "Do you understand the word BROKEN? Look at this..."
(FK!) It's hard to laugh when you are in pain, but that's part of the nature of military humor!

OK guys, I'll make this real simple. I rode submarines for 8 years and Coast Guard Cutters for 16. Anyway, total of 24 years of service and 16 years at sea or assigned to seagoing commands. All of my ships were small and operated independently. We had a corpsman and a small ships office consisting of a YN1 and a helper.
It didn't take me long to figure out that you have to be your own doc and your own yeoman. Take NO-ONE's word for anything. Do your own research, demand the best treatment because it is available in the military system and thoroughly read your damned LES. Don't be afraid to waive the BS flag as needed. You don't have to be a sick bay commando to get treated well. Just don't settle for less.
