Buy a 2010 or wait for 2011

I have been looking at getting a new 150. I am not in any kind of hurry to get rid of my 2005 F250 CC SD. What would you do? Buy a 2010 FX4 5.4 loaded and get a good price or wait and order a 2011 with the 5.0. I test drove one today and it was great and quiet compared to the SD. My F250 is too big to park at work or most any of the parking garages in town, so that is my motivation to downgrade. I don't tow heavy, so the F250 is overkill for what I need. I appreciate your opinions on what you would do. I have not owned a Ford gasser in over 20 years.

If it was me I would trade the F250 in and get the 2010 but I like to have the newest of everything. If my bank account was making the decision then he would say to wait because the longer you drive the old truck the more it will pay for itself. Also you could give the new model trucks time to get the bugs worked out but since they test them so much now a days they are pretty well worked out by the time they hit production.

I imagine if you wait until December, you will get absolutely SMOKIN deals on whatever 2010's are left on the lot.

Right now, my local dealers are blowing out 2010 SD's diesels for 12k off sticker. It's tempting to get a 6.4 for 12k under what the new 6.7's are going for.

If I remember correctly, those kinds of deals usually are offered for F150's too, probably in the 8k range, every time the models significantly change, and 2010 to 2011 is a pretty significant change.

If you can live with a 2010 with the 5.4, you will get pretty darned good deals. No time like the present. As for the SD you have, I can't imagine that the parking places are THAT small, unless you have a long bed.

The new gas engines are an unknown, to me anyway. 5.4 is proven.

I still think that instead of FOUR new engines, ford should have developed 3, with one of them being the 4.4 liter diesel engine long rumored for the F150. They could have developed the 3.7, the 5.0, and the 4.4 diesel, which could have served as the base engine in the SuperDuty as well. But I guess it had to be the 6.2 and the 3.5 EcoToot.

What a joke.

The parking problem with the F250 is due to the height. It is a fuzz over 7 ft tall. Most of the parking garages were not built by engineers with big trucks, because they have a 7 ft height. I did not lift the truck, it was how i bought it.

I would like to know if the new engines are going to get significantly better mileage at the city level as most of my day to day driving is city.

I decided to go with the 2010. Cheaper, and more options for the money, as well as the old tried and true 5.4. Figure that most of the bugs have been worked out of it by now. And in 2 or 3 years, I'll start looking at the 2014's, and how well things have worked out with the new motors.

If you do get the 10 at least wait until the 11s are out so you can get blowout pricing. They'll be giving away 5.4s once the 3.7EB, 5.0, and 6.2s are on the lot.

In my opinion, I would go with a 2011 super duty with the 6.7 diesel.... It is far beyond anything out there! I just got mine a month ago and I absolutely LOVE it! BEST truck I've ever owned! I previously had a 2004 F350 and a 2007 F350 and this by far blows them away.... so, if you can afford it, just go for it!

Talking

At the moment, there is advantages to both. The 2010 models advantage is simple. The rebates and financing deals now. I don't know what the dealers in your area are offering, but some trucks at my dealer are marked down over $6,000 with 0% APR Financing for 60 months. Plus, the 4.6L and 5.4L 3-valve V8 engines still make plenty of power, but not the most.

The new 2011 models advantage is the engine and some new options. You can get a locking rear differential on all models from XL to Platinum. The engines are much, much more powerful too. The new 5.0L V8 is what stands out to me. They are faster from 0 to 60 than the new 6.2L, but the 6.2L makes MORE power. I think Ford is underscoring the new 5.0L's power capabilities. Also, the information display on the new 2011s is being refreshed. It'll be a 4" LCD Productivity Screen with offroad, maintence, and much other information, just like the new Super Duty.

But whichever you choose, they both have their advantages at this moment.

My 2009 F250 which is level, is 6'7" tall. I haven't found a parking structure I couldn't enter. Finding a parking spot is a different story...

I think that if Max tow package with a small V-8 is a must then the 2010 is a must have. If one were satisfied with a 5.0L and a 9800 lb tow rating, then the 2011 might be worth waiting for.

In my mind you can't lose either way. But if I were in the market for a 2011, which I will be in the spring, I would make sure that the 2010's are gone from the local area. No matter what anyone says, Ford still has to sell trucks. Deals on the 2011's will be as strong as usual.

So for me, I'd wait for the 2011's. E-locker, select shift tranny, better display, more engine options, two new color options, etc.

Not that it really makes much difference. But Ford has changed the 5.0L's tow rating from 9,800lbs to an even 10,000lbs. Which should be more than enough for anyone in the market for an F-150.

So my response to the question is... Personally I am waiting for the 2011's. Those 5.0's are sure some sweet looking engines. And with 10,000lbs towing you can't go wrong. Granted a 2010 F-150 with the 5.4L and max tow is rated to tug 11,300lbs, I can almost guarantee you the 5.0L will tow 5,000 to 8,000lbs (The average 1/2 ton owner pulls) with MUCH less fuss than the old 5.4L. And I also feel confident that the new engines in the 2011's will get noticeably better mileage than the old 4.6L's and 5.4L's. The opt E-Locker on ALL the 2011 models is also a very big plus. All and all I think the 2011 model has enough advantage's to it to make it the better buy, Even if you don't get as sweet of deal as you would on a 2010. But that's just my 2c I'm sure whatever you get you will love it. I know I will.

I just bought a 2010 FX4. I got $10k off MSRP. I had to drive down to Grapevine Ford (Dallas area) to get that kind of deal though. You can't get into a used 09-10 FX4 here in the Tulsa area for what I paid new. It's all about what you want to pay. I have always been against buying new and taking the big hit on depreciation, but the deal I got eliminated that.

I think the new engines coming out in 2011 are going to be fantastic - I firmly believe Ford is definately on their game the past year or two and the new vehicle/engine rollouts have been very successful...

However, if you don't mind have the "last" generation truck in a few months, now is the time to grab a great deal on a 2010. Probably going to be some great deals.

My last thing I'm going to say to you: You better make sure this is what you want to do! I got rid of my 250 PSD CC for my 150 and I miss that diesel every day. The 150 is fine and all, no issues, etc. But at the risk of being "flamed", the 250 is a real truck...someday i'll be back.

Good luck! Cheers.

Since you are currently in a Super Duty, I HIGHLY recommend going to the dealer and trying out one of the new 2011 Super Duty's. Sure, you won't get nearly the deal that you can get on a 2010 left over because they are just trying to clear them off the lots. I got my new 2011 for invoice plus the $2500 commercial rebate so the only deal I didn't get was the speacial financing.

What it comes down to is "what do you REALLY want?" Do you want a "great deal" or do you wan't to stay in a "truck"? I've been driving F350's since my first one in 2004 and then my 2007. I could never let myself "settle" for less of a truck just to save a few bucks! When you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on a vehicle, you HAVE to be ABSOLUTELY HAPPY! If you want the best of both worlds both financially and truck-wise, I would hold off and wait till they have year-end clearances on the 2011's with the 6.7 Diesel... You WON'T be disappointed!

I am in the market for a truck as well and with the current incentives on the 2011 F-250, you can get a similarly equpped truck as compared to a 2011 F-150. I don't need a Super Duty but I am sure tempted to look at one simply because of the price equivalency.

Of course, if you have an X-plan PIN it is not an issue but for the regular buyer it is something to consider.
