01 7.3 column shifter slop

The column shifter on my 01 7.3l F250CC has quite a bit of slop. Shifting into drive and reverse takes some hunting. Is this a transmission issue or a shifter issue? DIY or shop fix?

Thanks,

Trevor

Red Boat,

All I can say is wow! I have been living with this problem since I bought the truck two years ago. I thought it was just an old truck annoyance. The link you guided me to helped me fix the problem in about five minutes.

Once again, thanks.

I have no slop in my shifter, but I went out to check anyways. I checked the bottom bolt, good. I checked the top bolt and to my surprise it screwed in about 3-4 turns! Check your bolts fellas!
