Ranger frame dimensions at bumper mount

Hey everyone,

I have a 1992 F-150 flareside and it's tough finding replacement parts for this thing - even at the scrap yards. My truck does not have the rear step bumper that I have seen common on other flaresides of the same era, but a fiberglass indented bumper that is flush with the rear of the truck. Basically, I don't like the look of it, nor do I enjoy stepping over the back of the truck realizing that there is nothing to step on.

I was wondering if any of you kind people would be gracious enough to head out to your Rangers and measure for me the length between the outsides of the frame where the rear bumper mounts. On my F-150 it is slightly over 37". I am hoping the dimensions are similar to that of the F-150 so I can take a rear bumper off a Ranger at the scrap yard. Perhaps even a measurement on the Ranger tailgate, as well. I can do this tomorrow, I'm sure, but I'm really curious and want to put my mind at ease by getting everything prepped haha. Any help would be absolutely fantastic!! Thanks in advance.

I think you're SOL.
2004 Ranger:
Distance to outside of frame = 33" (but the bumper bolts to the bottom of the frame rail).
Tailgate width 53 3/4"

I might just have to agree with you on that haha. I appreciate you taking the time to get the measurements. I'm going to head outside now and take a look at my truck, see if there's something I can come up with.

Rear bumper on my 91 Ranger doesn't mount directly to the frame. Two bumper supports are bolted to each frame rail and bumper is bolted to them. My frame rail dimension and tailgate width are the same as what reddog99 gave for his "04".

I figured it would be a long-shot. That's too bad. I decided to look into the ranger because the flareside rear bumpers are alot smaller than a standard f-150 rear bumper, along with a smaller tailgate section - similar to that of a ford ranger. It's so hard to find parts for these darn trucks. Thought maybe with some working around it I could use the ranger for a bumper - looks like I'll just have to keep checking back at the scrap yards. Thanks though guys!
