Angel Fire, New Mexico
So, my random place on the map for a vacation this year is at Angel Fire, New Mexico. I will be out there for a week and am open to suggestions as to what to do and see while I am there. I have two kids with me but they like the outdoor kind of stuff as well. Any good restaurants, etc? Any places to avoid. Any information is appreciated. Headed out there the end of August.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Oh man are they going to hate me.....
Hoping to be able to do a four wheeler trip with my son, maybe some horseback riding and if there is anything nearby, rent a boat on a lake. Anything outdoors is good for us.

Angel Fire is part of the "enchanted circle" in Northern New Mexico, so-named because the highway that goes to Taos, Red River, and Angel Fire forms a circle (and for other reasons, I'm sure).
Northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, LOTS to see and do if you have the time to drive a little. Eagle Nest Lake is just north of Angel Fire. Be aware that the end of August may be booked solid as folks try to squeeze in one last vacation "fling" before school starts.
The Red River and Angel Fire ski resort web pages may give you some useful information on summer recreation activities.

We just got back from a week in Angle Fire and about all I can say is "wow". What a fantastic place. We stayed in a three bedroom log cabin that we got through our timeshare - right across the road from the ski resort. We did a lot of hiking, some horseback riding, some sight seeing, went to an Alpaca ranch and did some off-road driving. I found out how rocky forest roads and stock tires on an Explorer are a bad combination. Went to Red River, Taos, Questa, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and so many other places. Ate at a Whatabuger - they need them back east.
Overall, a great trip. Met some really super people too. If you ever get the chance - go there.
