Does anyone know how to reset the ECU on the 98 Expedition? On most cars removing the power for an hour or so will do it, but I tried that on mine with no results.
I removed the wrong fuse while trouble shooting a bad rear wiper and now my airbag warning light flashes and then stays on. I know the ECU's in these things remember faults so that the dealer can see what the history is when they hook up to the computer, and they just do a reset if nothing is found. I think it saw the airbag fuse being missing as a fault and the ECU will give the warning until it's reset. I don't want to pay the dealership to just reset it, or give them a reason to say they found something wrong with the system and charge me big bucks to fix it by just resetting the ECU. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't believe that the ECU turns on the airbag light. I may be wrong so don't quote me on this. I believe the airbag light is controlled by the airbag module. I would try pulling the fuse to the module or better yet, just disconnect the battery. I had an experience with a VW where I had the airbag disconnected and the ignition on which therefore set a code. Disconnecting the battery did not reset the computer and the car had to go the dealer.
