So I finally got the truck running right. (So I thought) I got the safety and emissions done and went and got it registered today. I get home and go to pull the truck in my driveway (haven't started it in a few days) and it won't start. So I stop and wait a minute and try again and it starts up, but with a loud clunk.
The engine continues to run, but I can here a metal object bouncing around inside the valve cover. I drain the oil to see if I see any metal and there isn't any metal objects that come out. So I pull the valve covers off and find ONE of the "rocker arms" (not sure the exact name) on the cam moving freely. (the things that rest on the valve itself) I rest it on the valve and i'm able to pull the rod that manuvers the "rocker arm" right out of the block. And it is bent pretty good. (I'm not sure what the rod is called but it has a ball on each end and seats under the rocker arm and the rest goes down into the block)
i dont think its bad i would give it a good run through and torque down your rocker arms at that part is called a pushrod and if thats bent your most likly in my situation time for a valve job or new heads
Bent pushrod, pretty common for an FE that has sat for a while. As long as the valve is back up, it should be ok to just replace it, but if the valve is stuck down then the head should come off and be gone through.
