O.k about a mounth ago I replaced the shocks, front upper "A" arms, outter tie rod ends, and sway bar links along with a bigger sway bar. In the rear I replaced the sway bar links, installed a bigger sway bar along with the shocks.
Here is the problem, even though the ride comfort has improved 1000%, I get a clunk that is starting to **** me off! It doesn't happen all the time and I'm not sure from where it comes from, maybe the passenger front, rear driver, sometimes it sounds it's the swaybar making the noise. I also noticed a smaller sounding noise whenI turn to the right, not sure if this related. I have already checked everything underneath, but everything is tight.
I'm currently stationed in Italy and the auto hobby shop is limited in tools. Any ideas as to what the problem might be is greatly appreciated.
I did purchase new lower ball joints but the auto hobby shop didn't have the necessary tools to remove the old ones. They have to be pressed out and pressed in, so they are just sitting in my garage. I don't feel the clunk on the floor, I hear hear it more when I roll down the window. Where is the idler arm located in relation to the front suspension?
Yours may vary because you have a newer version of the truck. On mine the steering shaft goes into the steering box on the frame, drivers side. An arm connects to a center link. The center link has the tie rods on either end. It is also anchored on the other frame rail by the idler arm. It looks similar to the steering arm.
You can buy the ball joint press tool for $50 or less. Ball joints are probably the clunk if they haven't been done. That would be my priority. It isn't a hard job with the right tool. Most shops have a simple press that works too. Remove the arm, strap it to your bicycle and bring it to the shop
i had a clunking noise in the rear. I finally traced it to a loose driver side upper shock mounting bolt. Access there is terrible and a slight amount of movement was making quite a bit of noise .
alloro,
The sway bars came with new inner bushings.
Gevans17,
I will check all the shock mounting bolts to see if that is the problem.
I'll post the results.
