My buddies girlfriend has a 99 ranger 4 cyl and manual trans and it has never really been taken care of. It started running really bad bucking, stalling, missing, running rich and more.. I helped my buddy replace the plugs and wires and it did not change anything. I think 4 of the 8 plugs were original(she was told they replaced all plugs before)
Its getting a Missfire cyl 2 and 4 code.
Coils have been replaced and I checked and it has good spark.
the coils fire in pairs 4/1. 2/3. You can get them tested or test for resistance with a multimeter... I would change the fuel filter and add a large bottle of Techron. then consider doing a fuel pressure test..........I hope you used autolite or motorcraft plugs and wires.

He used autolites. I told him to get motorcraft but he said they were .25 cheaper.. Dont know what plug wires.. Some from autozone..
I told him we should change the filter so I guess we will try that. I also thought about seafoaming it. The TB was nasty.
How many miles on the truck, or at least, how many miles since a major tune-up?
How is the air filter? If it is dirty, replace it.
While you are working at that end of the air intake system, check the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor to see that it is clean. If not, clean it with MAF Cleaner, not carb Cleaner.
If you have a PCV valve, check it for possible contamination. Shake it. If it doesn't rattle, replace it.
Check the vacuum lines for leaks. That can be a reason for the engine running rich.

No idea how many miles are on it. Who knows when it had its last major tuneup. Airfilter is good.
Ill check the MAF sensor. PCV is good. Ill go over the vac lines again.
Any idea why it has cyl 2/4 missfire? If the "coils fire in pairs 4/1. 2/3"?
Ill go over everything on it next time I can get together with him and work on it. Im just stumped about the 2/4 missfire.

i hope he put the dp's in..............check fuel pressure........the cyl 2 and 4 just means it is probably a fuel issue and not a coilpack, icm issue....stop fighting your self and check fuel pressure and the maf

What are DPs??
Im not fighting myself at all. Its not even my truck im just trying to help someone out.
Ill check FP and the MAF sensor when I see him again.
