I have two questions. First can someone tell me what I can do to identify the transmission in my F100? I believe it is stock, although prior to me someone moved it from the tree to the floor. Which leads me to my second question, I am having issues getting it into gear. I can put it into reverse, although I seem to really push in the gas to get it moving, then I have to slam on the brakes because it really starts moving. But I cannot seem to get any forward gear. Could this be because of the aftermarket floor shifter, or am I looking at a rebuild/swap for sure.
Ok, another question. Will any C6 Ford transmission work, or must it be specifically for the 360?
I've never rebuilt a transmission, so I'm trying to decide. Do I take this one to a mechanic and try to have it rebuilt or do I get another working C6 and just have it swapped out.
I could turn around and sell the other C6 to recoupe some of the cost...
Any thoughts?
An L shape, I looked up the pans online. It looks like the C6 pan, but there is a piece attached that I think is covering up the bolts I missed.
Thanks for the confidence in the C6. I'm going to find a local shop to look at it. Hopefully I can at least get it looked at this week. I don't want to do the rebuild myself, I know where my limits as a hobbyist are
Well it wasn't that bad after all. Apparently it needed a "vacuum advance" ? Sorry if that's wrong, the phone call was hours ago and I've been busy at work. Anyways only 260 for parts and labor, including the tow. A lot less than I figured I was going to be spending, and it's done! So, 9 days after bringing it home I have a running and drivable 1972 F100, woohoo! Thanks for all the help guys. Now the fun stuff starts, getting it cleaned up, replacing any broken/missing trim and seeing about a paint job.
