Im stii working on 99 f150. The temp is riseing to 3/4 to 7/8 towards H for 30 seconds then drops to normal, seems like air in system. I have used13 gallons of AF. Can some one explain step by step everything involved to rid air. If I leave cap off and start truck it dosent do anything till gauge gets to about when state is going to open, then starts bubbling... and when state dose open AF goes down and stops bubbling. It seems like once state opens it stays normal temp never goes up, but when cool it runs normal for a while then rises like above then cools to normal. Been dealing with this for 3 weeks with entire cooling system replaced including 2 stant, and 1 motorcraft state, water pump, heater core, radiator, upper and lower hoses, new fan bet and clutch, and belt tensionor. So if anyone can give every step to rid air, it would be great, Im out of ideas
thats my guess. you have a small head gasket leak that is leaking a spoon full of coolant into one cylinder each night. does it startup rough in the morning? the small head gasket leak gives an air pocket that causes the overheating. If everything is new as you said, i would add a bottle of block/ gasket sealer and see how that does.
use the copper stuff that is compatable with the antifreeze. dont idle the motor. take off the upper hose and pour in the bottle. reattach and drive down the road at 40 MPH for 10-15 minutes...top off the radiator the next morning. then check to see if you have the "overheating"
Seems to run fine except just before state opens. Wouldnt it still blow bubbles even after state opens. Ive been researching sealer you've been talking about, and it seems opionions are just about 50/50 good or bad. I dont really like putting band-aids on things but with 260000 miles it might be worth a try. Does anyone know where you can buy the strips to use in over-fill bottle, to check for combustable gases to verify before using sealer.
THis sealer is not a patch. It is permanent as far as i am concerned at this time. You leave it in the sytem and it continues to "do the job" if a small problem reoccures.
