I was at a Tractor pull this weekend and saw two five window trucks pull in the supercharged class. I believe they were Ford's, but I could be wrong. They looked to be anywhere from a 32 to 36 models. I'm sure they were fiberglass body's, but I wondered if Ford ever made a five window truck. I never remember seeing any.I really liked the looks of them, and being a five window, wouldn't it have a little more room in it?
Huh!! Never seen one of those either. The ones I saw were the more rounded body than an A, so that's why I was guessing 32 to 36. I even tried to look for fiberglass truck cabs and couldn't find those either.
The do make fiberglass bodies, for the Model As and the '34, I believe Speedway motors makes a body kit for them. There have been quite a few builders who have built extended cab trucks. I have seen a '35 and a '47 done up like that. But they are not factory from Ford like that, even in the aftermarket of the era they were not made. But they sure would give a bit more room, especially in the early trucks.
I looked at the cabs that Speedway has, and it didn't look like this. This cab is more rounded. This is bugging me. Wish I could have talked to the guy at the pull when I saw the truck. I'm really wanting to find out who makes the cab, if it's not an original. I would love to build a street rod truck using this style of cab. I'm 6'7", so I need all the room I can get. That looks like a car body where the trunk/rumble seat was shaved off. Look just below the back window where the body "buldges" out. That would be my 'unedumacated' guess.
What John says could be correct. It was something that used to be done in the '30's. Take a sedan or coupe, chop of the back end and make a truck out of it. One of the ways to get a useful truck for the farm.
How about a full size 4 door,5 window pickup. 50 p.u. Not a ex-tended cab or car body and its all steel. Real nice ride. Have a picture of that. But I can't figure out how to load them.
There was a truck featured in a magazine a couple of years ago. It wasn't an old truck; after 2k, IIRC. It was a crew cab with an extended cab section on the back of it. I always liked the idea, but a crew cab with an 8' bed is hard enough to park. With an extra 2' in the middle, it would be even worse. Still, for an old truck where the proportions are smaller, I think it would be doable.
That is a nice truck Dave. I seen one like it at the dealer. The one I saw did not have a camper on it. Its was a nice truck. But the diffrence is your picture is of a 2010 Ford 4 door, I was talking about a 1950 4 door, like 60 years older.
