hey guys, im new here, and im surethis threead has come up multiple times. i formerly owned an 03 cummins i aint got it no more, and im looking to purchase a 95 f250 7.3l...it has an auto tranny, the tow package, does that make any difference in the auto tranny? how is that auto tranny? and how hard would it be to swap a 5 speed into one, i intend to make this 7.3l move, i want it to be faster than the cummins...any thoughts?
Could be glowplugs or a glowplug relay going bad on the hard starting.
Doing the manual swap isn't bad. Just need pedals from a 92-97 F-series, trans, transfer case if it's 4x4, hydraulics, clutch and flywheel for a '95, different driveshafts or have yours modified... may need to cut a hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter.
I'm gonna do a 5-speed swap and a 4x4 swap from my '88 into my '95.
hey brown, that doesnt sound to hard, im not worried about pulling wrenches and cutting any thing. old man works an an auto wreckers i got parts galore..
well i have to do any CPU mods is my main thing...to tune the engine from an auto to 5 speed
ive never done this before, and am kinda new, but i love that truck i found so ya
and did you here any thing bout those auto tranny's?
ill have to watch and see what your gonna be going threw
sorry wait upon reading over, different drive shaft? oh wait brain fart nvm. i got it confused with the axle hahahaah. but for the most part brown, everything is pretty well bolt on?
Should bolt up just fine. You can use a manual trans from any 7.3L engine, just be sure to use the flywheel and clutch from your year engine. I recommend Valair clutch and single mass flywheel. Good price and the single mass flywheel will last a lot longer than the stock dual mass. Just a little louder and vibrates a little more.
Not sure on trans crossmember, might need the manual trans one.
If you swap a manual trans into a auto truck you can still use the auto CPU. But not the other way around.
i know eh, im heading down ther hopefully in a few hours to purchase it!! just need to get my income tax check,
i am so happy the CPU dont need to be touched, and after some thought and a bowl, i can uderstand why it doesnt need to be changed.
see brown, im also looking at another truck, its a 94 powerstroke, 6 inch superlift, no box, needs starter, pitman 2 inch drop arm, and it looks a bit rougher than the one i showed you. but this one has the 5 speed already you see and he only wants 2500, but in my head by the time i get done making that lifted one look as good as the, auto i showed you im going to be into it for probly alot more money, thats even with a tranny swap!!
You will need the PCM from a manual as well. Or have it reflashed or a chip burned for it.
Best to have a donor truck. If you have parts galore bring one home and rob everything from it. This job pretty much requires a donor. You will have to swap the steering columns to get rid of the selector and the part of the dash that has the selector for the auto will have to be swapped also to do it right. The tunnel over the tranny can come from the donor so you don't have a big hole in the floor.
when you say selector you mean like the stick shift for an auto?? PCM means ?? __________ control monitor?? ya all that stuff is good to know before i get ***** deep in this thanks for the tips...these forums kick ***!!! think il ever be able to make it as fast as my 03 cummins?? (it had 10000 dollar tranny, 35's, bully dog triple dog, stage 2 intake, 4 inch turbo back exhaust)
diesel dope, as these guys have said.. doing the swap isnt hard. but u said u want this truck to be faster than your cummins.... a 7.3 will never be faster than a cummins. due to its fuel injection system it is incredibly expensive to build power. it would take 5-10k to make a 7.3 faster than your cummins common rail...
