New Orings-hard to get injectors back in

So I am finding that pulling out injectors is not bad at all. Remember this is my first diesel!
What is the reason for pulling the glow plugs?
I just finished one side of motor, new O-rings are on, and am fixing to put injectors back. Thanks guys, I am really getting stoked to get her on the road!

On a great note, i spoke to a fellow with a 95 powerstroke with 400K on it, and he said he has another with 610 K !!! And he said both trucks haven't had the valve covers off yet!

And glow plugs! My truck doesn't quite have 150k on it and I have 5 dead glow plugs.

To answer your question, i haven't done it yet but have read alot about injectors. I dont think you NEED to pull the glow plugs. Its a good time to pull them and replace if needed. But just be sure to vacuum out the cylinders before putting the injectors back in otherwise you will hydrolock your engine and that is no good at all.

Basically once you install the new injectors leaving them unhooked, most guys remove the glow plugs to bump the starter a few times. that gives the oil a place to go. Then you install glow plugs and wrap it up.

I wonder if the new Orings will make an airtight seal, making it hard to fully insert the injector, with no place for the air in cylinder to go. I am going to clean the injector tips as well, they have some carbon buildup on them. so far all internal look great, oilpan and valve covers are super clean inside, no sludge or residue
Thank you, C

Give them a good old fashion bop on the top and they should slide right in. Hopefully others chime in if i am giving bad advice. But i dont see why they wouldn't go back in all the way.

just oil up the oring real good and push them in as far as they will go by hand then use a rubber hammer to tap them down it will make a good ping sound when they are all the way down.

I was hoping that would happen. But the injector still needs to go another 1/4 ", and it won't. I pulled it back out, checked orings, and reoiled injector, and still stops before fully seated

use a straight edge across the tops of the injectors...when properly seated the injectors will all be level with each other...

been there done that. An injector with old orings pops right back in, with a couple smacks of the deadblow. Injector with new oring stops short.
What am I doing wrong,?
I have oiled orings and injector,
time for a bigger hanner(hoping not)
I'll mess with this again tomorrow
Thank you, C

The reason to pull the glow plugs is so that you do not hydrolock your engine due to any fuel and oil that have drained from the heads into the cylinders. Pulling the GP's vents the cylinders when you spin the motor over so that you don't lock it up and bend somethign. If you choose not to pull the GP's, I'd at least roll the motor a few turns by hand. The starter has more than enough oomph to cost you a rod.

When I did mine I dunked the injectors in oil first.

I'm replacing four injectors on the same bank next weekend, and this is a great read so far. I'm replacing mine due to a fuel starvation problem caused by a blockage somewhere - not sure where in line so I intend to clean every fuel path there is.

But after the reinstall, is there a way prime all the oil and fuel lines before starting the engine? Also my first real truck...
