I've searched the forum for about 2 hours now and can't seem to find the perfect thread or article showing how to replace a fuel injector. I've tried many different combinations of search words and looked thru the tech guides. Anyone out there have a link to a good how-to thread with pictures? I have an 02 Expedition w/5.4 motor.
Truthfully you don't need a guide because its pretty straight forward. The chrome fuel rail is held on the intake manifold by two bolts (8mm I think). Each injector has its own connector which easily unplugs. The only hard one is number 8 (driver's side all the way back) due to lack of room.
Unplug each injector, remove the two bolts holding the fuel rail to the intake manifold, and pull straight up. It may take a little persuasion but it will come out. Replace your injector(s), put them in place, and push the rail back down and bolt up. Its really that simple. You may want to have a few injector o-rings on hand in case one tears.
1. Start the engine and pull the fuel pump relay or fuse. This will use up the fuel that is in the pressurized fuel line and it won't spray all over the place when you take things apart. (It is also a good idea to do this before changing a fuel filter.)
2. Lubricate the injector o-rings with a very light coat of Vaseline before you put them back in and they will slide in nice and easy and not tear.
Thanks for the info, but do I or dont I have to remove the upper intake manifold to get at the 4 bolts that hold the fuel injection supply manifold (fuel rail) in place and and then I can get at the individual injectors?
FYI...I'm only trying to get at #7.
My 02 Expedition repair CD says you have to pull the upper intake manifold then you can get at the fuel rail. Can this injector pull be done without pulling the intake manifold?

You do not have to remove the intake. The fuel rail is bolted to the left & right sides of the intake. Since you only have to get to the #7 injector, just remove the two fuel rail bolts on the driver's side and lift the fuel rail up. Okay, maybe "lift" isn't the correct word, "yank" is probably more accurate.
