Which shocks should I get? I want smooth ride on 2001 Expedition

I have a 2001 Expedition EB, that has already been converted from air to shocks. I feel the ride is not very good and fairly "bumpy"

Since I didn't do the convertion, I don't know when it was done, or anything - What shocks would you guys recommend for this truck to give a good smooth ride - like a new vehicle!?

You will probably get all sorts of answers on a question like that. And you can spend a lot of money if you so choose.

Personally, I have found that the premium shocks from Monroe ride pretty good and are reasonably priced.

You will not go wrong with Monroe Senasa-Trac. About $35/ea at Rockauto.

Hey man... I'm in ARLINGTON too!

I calle O'rileys and get prices from $22 to $51 depending on "quality"... All I know if my truck seems to ride fairly bumpy - so if $200 is what it would take to replace all 4 with good smooth riding shocks - I'm willing to spend that. But I don't want to waste time, effort or money either.

I think the $51 were Monroe Reflex ?

I just finished putting on Procomp E3000 on my 2002 xlt 2wd last month. Very happy with them and the ride. Great handling improved braking. Four shocks for $140.00. fourwheelparts.com. Shipping was free as well. Just my 2 cents here. Hope it helps.

I bought bilsteins and they're not smooth, very stiff, so don't go that route.

Ultimately, ride quality is a matter of personal taste. So no one can define "a smooth ride" for you other than you.

I have had Rancho 5000 (same as the Monroe Reflex), Monroe Gas Magnums and Monroe Sensa-Tracs on various truck. All seemed pretty good to me.

Which KYB's do you have?
I am headed for my 2nd set of shocks.
Like the OP, I too need a smooth ride, not a Bilstein firmness, but not a basic Monroe HD washboard either.

I had the GR2's on my Altima and will soon be putting those in my Camry, but thinking about going KYB on my 01 Expy and looking for input.
THanks
Greg

I just switched form the KYB Mono Max to the Bilstiens. I wanted a firmer ride though, and I am super pleased.

The KYB's were pretty floaty for my taste, but they are going to be more $$ than any of the Monroes. I think monotube shocks are better, so for a smooth ride in a monotube, the KYB's would work.

When I was shopping the Monroe sensa tracs were reccomended by several parts guys I trust as good riding. They have a good warranty and the guy at my NAPA store said he had never had a set come back or any complaints, not bad for a guy who sells them all day. The Reflex is going to be a little stiffer, they might not be worth the extra $$ if a smooth ride is the goal.

Since I don't do off-roading, I went with these on mine for the same reason you're considering them...I wanted a smooth ride. Well I wasn't disappointed, it rides smooth as silk and I hardly feel any bumps.

After about 112,000 my Expy's stock shooks were beat, got the good ole Monroe's, nothing expensive just your regular OEM replacements, better ride than I had.

I sucked it up and dropped the coin for the pretty blue and yellow Bilstiens. When it came right down to it I paid $60 each to my door for the Bilstiens, $10-15 more per shock than the Monroes. I know I would have killed the Monroes and just generally not been happy with the level of control by comparison. I have had the Bilstiens on the trail for a couple of weekends, and one 400 mile mountain pass trek. I definately made the right decision for my needs.

I actually do not find the ride as firm as many think. Just because it doesn't float doesn't make it to firm for me. I think the truck feels MUCH better now.
