2006 ranger 4.0sohc ,auto (shifting issues)
<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1; COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1 itxtvisited="1"><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->ok i'm new here and i've read some of the posts regarding shifting issues, well here's my problem. A few weeks now my truck shifts abnormal and i just thought it was the cold weather. it shifts fine untill it reaches the higher gears then although it still accelerates the rpms are high. Once i let off the gas it shifts, once warm it seems to do better. i had a mechanic check for error codes but none showed up. I'm thinking a solenoid is sticking but not a car mechanic. please help ! I've read abouth the valve body gasket but if this were the case would'nt it be leaking.should i replace the solenoids or what
Has it ever had a tranny filter change & full fluid pump out????
If not, you might consider trying 1/2-1 can of Seafoam Trans Tune in it (don't over fill), then driving it & see if you notice any improvement. If so, it's likely a deposit problem hanging something up, so drive it until the problem stops, then do a pan drop, filter change & full fluid pump out like this.

Be sure to use a quality made Mercon-V fluid, that says it meets or exceeds Fords Mercon-V specification, for the fluid change & use a Motorcraft/Filtran tranny filter.
If it doesn't get better with the Seafoam, deposits aren't likely the problem, so you might have something like a gasket, seal, solenoid, pump, ect, problem, that'll need a Dealer, or good tranny shop to diagnose.
Driving with it slipping will damage the clutch packs, so don't put off having it checked out & serviced if the Seafoam doesn't do any good.
Some thoughts for consideration, let us know how it goes.
