Hello---new here and have been reading forum for 4 hours.Got some ideas as to what my problem may be but would like to hear from you experts that have been around for awhile----or lead me to the proper area in the forum.
My problem is that since the weather got cold whan i go to start my v10-6.8 gas powered motorhome it seems like it starts on one cylinder and then dies.It will do this 3 or 4 times and then finally maybe on the 4th or 5th try it will fire up and run fine. When it starts i get a grayish cloud of smoke for a few seconds and then it disperses.(like maybe gas flooding).I let it run say for 5 min and shut it off and then restart and it fires up no problem, and no smoke.
This problem started on thanksgiving weekend and i have not used motorhome since.Since thanksgiving i have cleaned k&n air filter, changed plugs,checked-cleaned and sealed cops, changed oiland filter, changed fuel filter, and added fuel purge to the gas tank.It still has not changed the starting problem.
My reading leads me to think i may have to clean the IAC and MAF and maybe Trottle body and plate.Other then that do you guys have any ideas to help lead an old timer in the right direction?
Pulled and cleaned the IAC-IDLE AIR CONTROLLER--and reinstalled and it runs like a champ.Starts right up now. When I removed it ,it did not look that dirty. It had a fine film of soot in chamber and around the spring and flap seal.I cleaned this with electrical spray cleaner and a rag. Also swabbed out the port. That did the trick. Thanks for all the info on this site.
