Ongoing electrical problems

Its been some time since I posted, how is everyone? My original post was in regards to batteries dying overnight. I still have to disconnect them every day or else, dead batteries. Still can't find a draw as I can never get it to show up using the test light between the battery and connection. I am beginning to suspect the alternator. Do they charge on demand via the computer or should they continuously charge. I had it tested today at O"Riellys and was putting out less than 13 then just a little over 13. We turned on the lights re-checked and had low alternator output. Was intermittent between diode good, diode bad. I suspect the alternator is draining the batteries, as one morning I got up to check the truck cold and the alternator was warm. Also does the fan shroud snap on and off? Thanks in advance. Hope everyone had a great CHRISTmas and an ongoing happy New Year.

It sounds like a sound diagnosis to me. The alternator can only produce so much power, basically in wattages if you pull greater than the 110a it's supposed to produce at speed, the voltage output will drop. 13v is pretty low, you should be seeing atleast 13.3-13.6 upto ~14v.

Did they check the batteries too? An internal short in one battery will cause that battery and any other battery to discharge. The alt being hot, is a good sign that it's shorting, but this is something to be aware of.
