Some A-Hole trucker slammed my left mirror and the glass flew in (I guess) a million pieces, the housing slammed against the window but it's OK, the motors are turning, nothing is broken inside, the little ball at the center is there, only the glass is missing I guess but it has to be some kind of plastic backing with two screws and two pins to engage in the housing.
Now my question, is this part available? I see a lot of replacement glasses on different websites but is it only the glass without the backing?
Most have a very general description and no picture, I want to make sure I have the correct thing, does somebody have a part number or a link to help me?
I'm not about to replace the complete mirror assembly just for the glass.
I have manual mirrors so I don't know the details on the power unit but I went to my local auto glass place and they ordered me a cut piece of mirror with the mounting hardware for $10. Might want to give it a shot. Better than replacing the whole mirror.
just a suggestion but try your local junkyard. i have replace two of these in this way. they are dirt cheap, no shipping, and no waiting. if you have never replaced one, then the junk yard is good for this too. . . . also when you go to put it in, it will probably feel like you are going to break it getting the little ball in the center to pop in.. just keep pushing and maybe try bumping it a few times, it will take some persuasion.
I company named Burco sells these as what I believe is called a Reddi Cut RSG (Ready Set Go). where it is the backing plate, heater circuit (if applicable), Turn signal (If applicable) and the mirror glass as a unit. All you need to do is pop it on. However it woudl probably be just as easy to get one from the junkyard, or even a whole mirror assembly.
I have installed several Reddi Cutts glass inserts, and they work great, and also look factory.
You can order just the glass from a Ford dealer but, since you do not have the plastic pins(fit in the white holes) You would have to order the whole thing. I'd just do like everyone else said and get one from a junkyard. Just a little help......... on the back of the glass where the plastic ball snaps in, if you heat this up a little with a heat gun it pops together alot easier.
