I'm planning on refinishing my 92' by either repainting or doing a complete vinyl overlay. I saw one on the highway in a Realtree camo graphic and really liked it.. My ??s are !
1. Has anyone done one and how is it applied ? ie; like a window tint method of soap and water ?
2. How difficult is it to remove ?
3. Is it doable on an amateurs level ?
4. Pros and cons.
I've found the product for under $1000 and am seriously considering giving it a go and feel pretty confident that I can achieve it.
Your opinions are appreciated, good or otherwise.
Thanks!!
it is basically a window tint method and if you have the time and patience to do it you can do it on an ameteur level. It is a huge job but possible. Let me know how it turns out but make sure you scrub every spot of dirt and grime off your truck before you do it.
dont use soap and water. there are aplication fluids available at any sign shop. i use one called "right on". try this website Sign Making, Sign Supplies, Vinyl Cutters, Sign Cutters, Vinyl Banners, Wide Format Color Printers, Laser Engravers also pick up a felt edge squeegee. clean your truck then wipe it down with denatured alcohol. work in a dust free area. hang the camo on the truck without peeling the backing off, thats so you can make some regestration marks from the graphic to the truck this way when you peel the graphic and spray the backing you'll have marks to match up to. you also are going to need a heat gun. i run a small sign shop (part time) out of my house, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me. check you tube and see if anyone has posted a how to video. good luck.
definately do not attempt this without someone that has applied large vinyl graphics at teh very least... complete overlays are very tough when it comes to the complex curves of vehicles body lines and corners
the longer it is on the harder it is to remove, especially without damaging the paint underneath
make sure you use a good qaulity vinyl, cast would be best. if you plan on having it a while you will ned it overlaminated for longevity...
