how much more money can i expect to get selling my 03 expo with a warranty that has a 2 year or 20000 miles left on it. i know i could cash the remaining warranty in but think i would be better off selling with the warranty so the person purchasing will have a better piece of mind buying a used vehicle from a private party.
The Ford warrantee does improve the saleability and value of your truck but, you will still have to be priced lower than the dealers in your area. The good things are that the buyer will have more faith in buying from the person who has been driving the vehicle for a while if they will help with the transfer and if they have copies of ALL of the past service/repair orders wether from the dealer or an indrpendent shop. A dealer can't come close to the confidence inspired buy buying from the person who has been operating the vehicle on a day to day basis.
The reason the dealers sell used cars is that there is often more profit in them than in a new car because they (the dealer) can and often does "low ball" the customer on the value of the trade-in vehicle. Often the customer knows this is happening but just takes it because they are tired of shopping and being beat down by the salespersons as well as not wanting to have to deal with the tire kickers and low ballers that often answer the for sale ads.
If you have a person that you know that is a member of your church, lodge, club, etc. that wants your truck having the extended warrantee to sell with the truck will increase the value. If you don't want to deal with the new owner or if there are issues that you know about with the truck that will come up later you might be better off just trading it in and letting the dealer put up with the issues.
Used vehicles and ex-girlfriends/wives and money are the cause of many broken frienships. It's your call.
