400 build
I'm working on the same motor. Mine isnt together yet, so sorry, I can't help you with fine tuning. However, I was wondering which 268H you have, and how you like it. There are 2 different 268H's correct? I believe there is the regular one, and also an Xtreme energy model. I have my heads done, port-matched, and 3 angle valve job. Now I'm working on the lower end. Did you shave the heads at all? if not what pistons did you use to get 9:1? It wont be long until I'll be looking for the same info your looking for on fine tuning. Please let me know if you get that thing tuned in just right. Thanks!
Steve
The truck also has a holley 750 (4160 model) that I am also changing over to an eldebrock 600. Had to rebuilt to holley twice in the last six month due to backfiring, which i believe was main cause by the ignition system problem I have been having.
From my understading the 400 need to have to TIMING prefect. There is another posting call "400 Timing" take a look.
I will let you now if the new ignition system works out all my problem.

TRUE BLUE FORD LOVER (but mine green) haha
Steve, I chose to use the magnum cam over the xtreme. The 351m & 400's tend to be a little hard on valve guides. I was afraid the steeper ramp angles on the xtreme cam would put even more stress on the valve train. plus I like the ever so slight hint of a lope at 650 rpm. I will check the mpg's on the next tank. with 120 miles I have used just over a 1/4 tank. I think I'm going to get better fuel ecomomy than I thought I would. I'm not going to mess with the carb settings till its broken in. Then I can start hammering it a little. I also used a mildon timing set. It make the stockers look like a bicycle chain. I did shave my heads .015 to increase my compression.
lee, Please keep us posted on the msd.
Well I have my truck all apart and starting to put it back together, but ran into another problem. My side gas tank has a large crack in it trying to find a replacement. As soon as I do i will let you know about the MSD
