More Starting Issues ~ Or NOT Starting, I should say!!
Ok, my turn, I guess,, **Heavy Sigh**
2002, F-250 PSD, 6 speed, 150k miles, 26*
I turned on the key,,, let the glow plugs cycle a couple of times,,, push the clutch down,,, turn the key all the way over,,, and nothing! No clicks, no whines, no growls,,, no nothing!!
Didn't put a gauge on the batteries, but the lights burn bright, the radio plays, the heater comes on,,, so plenty of power. The starter is 2 years old,,,, swapped that out a couple of summers ago.
I suspect the Clutch Interlock Safety Switch, as I have been having a little trouble with that anyways,,, having to push clutch down more than once to get the switch to engage,,, I plan on bypassing it and seeing if it is indeed the culprit.
Any other things I should be looking at while I'm poking around? Anything else come to mind??
Maybe to just double check that all the battery connections are clean and tight. Even if they look clean, clean them again. Can you try jumping with another vehicle to rule out the batteries/connections? Good luck Lizzie
Yeah, I'll be checking everything pretty thoroughly,,, I just didn't have time to do it at 4:00AM!! By that time, I just needed something to run to get my butt to work!!! But, I only work Mon-Wed this week, so I'll have a nice looong weekend to poke around and check things out!!!
So, now that I'm stuck in my car,,, can I take back the wish for all the snow I wanted in another thread?!?! lol!!
Be careful what you wish for,,, you just might get it!!!
My old Ranger used to have a "sweet spot" for the clutch safety switch thingy. It behaved like you are describing. Got worse and worse until... nada! Good luck.
Yup!! That's exactly what it's been doing!!! Hopefully it's a cheap fix,,, having to deal with repairs this close after Christmas is NOT in my budget!! lol!!!
When mine acted up I just went to Autozone and got a new one. Cost around $30 I believe. How loose was the thing on the rod? Are the springs inside there broke?
What happens if push down on the springs (like you're pushing the clutch in) with your fingers? Can you manipulate it so the truck will start when it's not attached to the rod? Maybe add a shim on the rod between the sensor and firewall to see if that helps?
I really hate trying to find the right wiring diagram on the stupid dvd, but if one of those tricks won't work I'll see if I can find a diagram that will tell us which wires to short to bypass the sensor.
Yeah, I tried that when I first got home,,, I reached up and pushed the sensor with my hand and had my Hubby turn the key as I tried different spots on the "slide",,, still no go.
Who knows, maybe this is not even the problem!! But if I jump it and it starts, I can get to work tomorrow and stop for parts on the way home. If I jump it and it doesn't start, then I know I have a different issue.
Either way, jumping it will either solve my problem, or eliminate a possibility.
If you have a wiring diagram, and could share with me,,, I'd be eternally grateful!!
OK, digging through the pinpoint test before I searched the hated diagrams section I ran across this
FC9 CHECK CPP/NSS SWITCH FOR OPEN
Key on, engine off.
Install Jumper between circuit 306 (TN/LB) or 329 (PK) CPP or 32 (RD/LB) NSS and 640 (RD/YE).
Key off.
The switch is normally close, so installing a jumper here to read open should work.
The first letters will be the main color then the color of the trace or line will be the second, so I'd guess we're talking about tan/light blud, pink, or red/light blue shorted to the red/yellow wire. Of course those don't match your description but from what I see, they should be the two middle pins.
Look over the attachment. The diagram at the top and FC9 is where I got the info.
