What maintence have you guys actually done to your truck?
I am almost at 60k on my truck and I took it to Quick Lube the other day and while I was having the oil changed the guy started listing some things that I haven't had done to the truck yet. I can't remember all of them but change the 4x4 fluid, flush the transmission, there was other less extensive things but I can't remember.
Anyway these guys at Quick Lube never try to sell me things so I thought after him telling me this that maybe I did need to have these done. But I had my transmission flushed 2 years ago so I don't know why he is bringing it up again.
So far I have had the 4x4 "checked" every year before winter. Also the fuel filter has been replaced and like I said the transmission was flushed 2 years ago. I have never had anything done to the 4x4 aside from replacing a solenoid.
What do you guys think and what stuff have you had done to your trucks?
Can't say I've had to really do anything yet other than change the oil. But then I've only got about 32,000km on the clock. I'll probably run a can of seafoam through it at 50,000km or so, but otherwise, just keep changing the oil and listening for clunks and creaks in the front end.
All I've done so far is rotate the tires, change the fuel filter and I've changed the oil several times. My truck has 26,000 miles.I'll probably get my transmission serviced around 30k miles.
Best bet is to go by your manual. I'm at about 72,000 miles.
30K and 60K are the first big ones (I think I had a transmission/transfer case flush and fuel filter swap at those intervals).
Also at 5 years coolant service is needed. More often after 1st time.
Some dealerships have tried to say I need 4X4 service but it's not in the manual until many more miles than I have and the only dealership I trust said it's not required yet either. It's at some pretty high mileage in the manual, don't remember what.
I think that's about it until 90K but again, check your manual.
I have an 04 with 95k. All I have done is change oil, fuel filter twice, coolant flushed once and spark plugs once. My dealer actually told me last week I needed to have the power steering fluid flushed. I thought that was pretty lame. I've never heard of that and it's not in the manual.
at 105XXXkm's i have done brakes front and rear, tires, oil, air filter... need to do the fuel filter... oil is due again... gonna do plugs and wires in the spring, sooner if something comes up....
On my 04 5.4L with 87,000 I have changed the oil every 5,000, air filter once to a K&N, tires once, and the brake pads once, nothing else.
I will probably do the plugs, fuel filter, and tranny around 100,000 or so.
The truck is used as intended, pulling my boat, snowmobiles, motox trailer..etc.
Personally, I think HOW you drive the truck is most important. I don't accelerate hard, brake hard, or drive stupid and my vehicles last forever trouble free. I also keep it washed weekly and take it for a full buff/interior cleaning once a year.
I drove my 97 F150 230,000 without any real issues following the same schedule before I sold it so I know what works.
I change oil every 3000 and change the transfer case fluid and air filter once a year(around 12k miles). At 50k I plan on changing transmission fluid, spark plugs, and front axle fluid. I will do the coolant at 5yrs, and probably the shocks. I had a rear axle seal go bad so I already had to replace the fluid in the rear axle.
50,000 kms and I've had the oil changes and fuel filter, tires rotated...
I got conned into having the transfer case fluid changed way too early according to the manual.
Transmission fluid needed to be changed at 48K, transfer case at 240K... or so it says in the good book of the ford.
