I just installed these on my 2000 EXP EB.4x4 I did not do anything to the front air levelers. Everything works great except for one thing and that may be me. When i crank my truck up and back into the door of my storage building to hook up to my boat the suspension is all the way down like it does when you shut the motor off. It is so low that the pivot jack on my boat trailer will not pivot up sometimes. I know the air bags work fine because when i back the baot in and the bags are pumped up i have a good inch to spare. I think i remember when you start up one of these the compressor is to come on right then and lift the 1" normal and then level. I have left it there running for as long as 10 min and no results. When i get on the road it is so quite that i never hear when it pumps up and gets level. I can put it in 4WD low and move the truck a little in the drive way and this will start the pump right then. What is the problem, some switch or me.
mY TRUCK WHEN IT HAS BEEN SETTING DOES NOT PUMP UP QUICK ENOUGH TO PICK UP MY BOAt trailer . When it was newer it would start pumping and leveling as soon as you started it. Now it does not start to pump up until you start down the road.
4WD Low just lifts the truck even higher than normal to improve ground clearance.
I hope your boat trailer has a crank jack like most do. This takes your problem away altogether. If the crank jack is all the way down and your truck is still too low, reconfigure your drop hitch and reverse the ball. This will give you another inch and a half in height.
I'm getting old and can't explain anything.
1. On a truck like mine when you shut the motor off tHE sus. drops the truck about 1 inch.
2. When you start the truck it raiseS and levels the truck back up that 1 inch.
3. Yes the 4WD low will raise it an inch higher but i do not need that here.
4. My boat trailer needs to run level because it is a two axle trailer.
5. When my air system pumps up the truck is the correct height and the trailer pulls great.
6. My problem is when I back the truck up to hook up to the trailer because the truch has been off the suspension is 1" low. It will pump up and be correct after i get down the road a little ways. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS NEW THE PUMP WOULD COME ON AND PUMP THE TRUCK UP THAT 1 INCH RIGHT AFTER STARTING IT WHEN IT AS BEEN SETTING THERE. fOR SOME REASON NOW THE PUMP WILL NOT COME ON right after staRTING AND THE BALL IS ToO LOW TO HOOK UP TO MY TRAILER. After I fight to get the trailer hooKed up and the trailer Jack up and out of the way, i can run down the road and the system will pump the truck up the 1" but only after i have driven A LITTLE WAY( COUPLE OF MILES)
7. The guy from american Air said that there is a little adf.THING on the rear axle left side. He says that if i adj this a little the rear of the truck will not drop the full 1 inch. when shut off. I'm going to try for a 1/2 inch. he says that this means when the truck does pump up it will bring the real the same 1 inch so my triler toung will be 1/2 inch higher than before when trailing but i think I can live with this.
8 After all that he(American Air) says that there is a module up front that tells the pump to come on and raise the system when the truck is started. Because mytruck is old this module may not be responding like it did when new(resulting in the truck air system not pumping up right after you start the engine). He told me ford is very PROUD of this module so I need to check all my avenues before going to repair it.
My truck doesn't start pumping until it is in gear and I take my foot off of the brake pedal. It sounds like the GEM is what is not working correctly, and Ford is proud of these.
