Van turbo - Wicked wheel combo

I've got a van turbo with a wicked wheel combo and the egt's will soar whenever I'm pulling a light load. The truck runs great whenever I'm unloaded but I really need something reliable. (especially if someone else borrows the truck to pull and doesn't know to watch the pyro)

In your opinion, will I see much of any decrease in egt's if I were to change to the stock compressor wheel and buy the ATS Compressor Housing?

I am also in the market for a 6.0L intercooler to help with these high egt's.

BTW, I'm still running stock sticks with a DP tuner chip.

More info is needed here. How high do they get? I can get mine to 1000 degrees pretty quickly, but after that, it's very hard to get it over 1300. Also, if you're lugging it, EGTs will definitely fly way up there, van turbo or not. Try down-shifting. Unless you have a boost leak, that combo should work nicely. At least one of the guys on here pulls heavy with his (Rich -- WhiteBuffalo) and has no issues like that I'm aware of. AND he has bigger injectors.

I see, maybe I'm in the clear and don't know it. The egt's get up to 1000 easy and will want to float around 1200 when pulling a trailer up a hill. My max boost that I get is around 25 and the only time I've seen it higher was when I had the stock turbo which was 28. I don't believe there is a leak but I have never checked.

How hot will you let your egt's get with the van turbo?
If money was no issue would you take the ATS housing over the WW?

FYI- Some of the NEW ATS housings I've seen lately look like junk. The amount of porosity in the casting, and all of the slag left in at the seam marks would steer me away from one of them very quickly. I'm not saying they don't work, I just wouldn't be happy with it. I do know that there's another company that makes the exact same housing, seen a couple of them, and they have a way better QC person working. I don't remember who they were, but Clay knows.

If money were no problem, I would throw in a Ball Bearing turbo and be done.

I've seen it over 1300, but not for long. I *really* have to be hammering it to get it up there. I wouldn't do the ATS & WW, unless you have surging issues with the stock wheel & ATS (VERY rare!). The ATS/WW combo is very noisy, too. So unless you like A LOT of whistle, I'd stay away from it.

I got one of the older ATS housings that were okay. No slag in mine... I have heard the same thing about the newer ones, but I also heard that issue was addressed at ATS. I haven't really kept up with it, though.

Here are a couple pics:

This question may need more information but........If injectors were swapped to a possible stage 1 type, which I plan to do later, how much of a change in egt's/smoke/mileage?

I would check to see if you have an exhaust leak. Check the up pipes and check your boots.

I need to check those up pipes. I don't think it will be fun trying to see the passenger side pipe.

I just did mine, with the help of my old man. He pulled the fender liner and it made a big difference, the bolts were right there, easy to get to. Without doing that, it would be difficult. I'm not one to tear apart more than I have to, and I wouldn't have done that, but I'm sure glad he did!!

I would go through and check all of your boots and up-pipes, make sure you don't have an exhaust or boost leak. You'd be surprised at how little of a leak can make a difference.

This is what I did when I did my up-pipes.I was able to stand on the front axle, made it easier to reach everything.
