I recently purchased a 99 f250 powerstroke. All seems well on the truck except when coming to a stop. When braking there is no clunk but as soon as the truck is about to stop (actually basically stopped), it clunks and like rolls back and forth kind of. Then when taking off it lightly clunks and then drives fine. I can let off the brake and apply it easily and it will do it everytime when stopped. Its not like a trans problem (i think) where the gears are switching but like a rear end issue or maybe drive shaft. But it will not do it under hard braking or while driving. Any ideas. I checked to the drive shaft play at the pinion and seemed fine (comparing it to my f150). Any ideas on what it might be or what I could try to see if it may be the problem. And btw, the transmission was just replaced 5,000 miles ago. And the guy before me towed a 5th wheel with it. Thanks for any incite.
I have exactily the same issue with my 2000 Excursion, A reply that I just got today said that his truck did this and he had the slip yolk greased, and he has not had a prob with it in 10 months. CK out my thread under excursion king of SUV's, a few pages back and read his reply.
Best of luck! If you get it fixed please let me know what it was.
Thanks!
Renee
