Expy 2003 Rebates-buy now, wait till January??
More imporantly - weve been haggling with a variety of dealers in our area - trying to decide whether to move now or wait till January. We've heard that end of year can be a good time to buy if a dealer is hungry to make his year end #s. Then we've also heard January is like the worst month of the year for car dealers so they can be really hungry then.
Ford's Current incentives for the 03 - $1500 rebate (though we have found some places offering $2000 rebate) - expire Jan. 3rd. Wondering if anyone has a feel - does Ford typically make the rebates better or worse at the first of a new year ?? Part of me thinks they'll make them the same or better b/c it just doesn't seem like stuff is moving out there right now.
Anyway-- we're dedicated Ford owners - 2 1994 SHO Tauruses we plan to keep for a long time (one only has 76k miles).
Thanks for the input! If we get one of these i'll be a regular visitor to the boards -- thanks to the shoforum.com, i keep our stealer on their toes on any service items on our SHOs -- they know they can't mess with us.
(1) The week between Xmas and New Years is usually very busy for us dealers
(2) There's an old saying in our business: a good deal is whatever the customer THINKS is a good deal. Many salespeople are very good at convincing you you've just stolen the vehicle, when in fact, you haven't. We're all onto this "wait till the end of the month to buy a car because the dealer's trying to meet his sales quota" nonsense. So many consumers now wait till the end of the month that you'll probably do better if you now buy in the BEGINNING of the month when we're struggling to put together sales.
(3) We don't know from day to day what Ford is going to do with incentives. It's gotten to the point where we check our private web site 2-3 times A DAY to see if anything has changed. What applies today may not apply tomorrow. If I could accurately predict what the incentives wil be in January, I wouldn't be sitting here- I'd be on a beach somewhere in front of my multi-million dollar mansion. Wait? Don't wait? I haven't a clue.
I don't know if any of this helps; I'm just telling you the way it is. You lays your money down and you takes your chances....
