Three of the wire clips that hold the center trim to the hood broke when removed. I went to Drakes and they didnt list any replacements for the 42-47. The girl at the counter looked at the example I had and came out with a package of clips for '39-'40. They look like an exact copy, FYI. The part number is 2655 EEO1GGO2. There were seven in the package, and I should have two left over if anyone needs a couple, free.
Just in case the point was missed, I said the "girl behind the counter". Actually she was a nice woman of 30 to 35. When she first came out behind the wall my instinct was "oh ****", having had many bad encounters at Autozonedout. She was sharp. Dont know if the other guys on board there would have done the same, though probably they would. Still impressed.
I made enemies, then friends with the AutoZoners (at least the manager and a couple other older guys). I was such a pain-in-the-*** that now when they see me they just say, you know where the stuff is, go find it yourself - and don't be stealin' nothin' !
What year - 47 but the engine is 72, 427 dump truck, no they didn't make that displacement, yes they did, your records don't include big trucks. Oh, I need a rad hose 2.5" bent like this piece of brake line, etc. etc.
The center strip clips worked fine, though they were a PITA to install, especially with an injured arm.
The hood installation is one or two days off, and I have a couple questions on the details. I have the safety hook that mounts in the upper rad. shroud, facing outward. Is that right?
There is a small lever that mounts on the underside of the front hood with a pin and spring. What does it do? Does one end of the spring attach to the pin coming out the side of the main hood latch?
So the small under hood lever locks the hood latch in an open position. One more trip to the hardware store for some fine thread 1/4 in bolts and tap, and it should be a go.
Thanks for the pics confirming I am correct so far. It has been 14 years since this hood was last in place, so there isnt too much in the memory bank from back then.
