Hello all,
I am looking for a four speed tranmission to bolt up to a 78 351m. The problem is I don't know what I am looking for. What type should I get? By the way this is going behind a modified 351m so the stronger the better. Thanks for your help.
Thank you for the info biilyb but when it comes to transmissions I am lost. I guess I should have explained a little more. I am in the process of putting a 351m into a 76 f-150 that is two wheel drive. A couple of questions that pop into mind: are bellhousings easy to obtain and will I have to do any major modifications as far as the crossmember is concerned?
get in touch with a good recycling parts yard, they can hook you up. also check the classifieds right here. as a matter of fact, check here first!
you will need a bellhousing with 351m pattern, and a tranny to hook to it. there were lots of trucks built over the years, so stick to it and you'll get what you need.
oh yeah, the crossmember will have to be made if you can't get one with the tranny. depth of tranny will determine configuration of crossmember.
for example, i took a t18 2wd tranny out of my 88, and put in a 4wd overdrive unit, and the crossmember is not as deep as the old one. not hard to do.
