Hey=======I just purchased a 59 F250. This is my first time owning one of these guys. I wanted to ask for some help on a few items. First, there is a whining noise coming somewhere near the fan or carb. I was wondering if this is a common problem/and possible solutions. Also, clutch fluid is leaking from the bottom of the vehicle near the oil filter, does anyone know what the source of the leak might be? Stearing is pretty loose at high speeds (50mph and up), whats the best way to tighten that up? and finally how do you lock the doors?????????
Whine: Generator maybe? REALLY loud? You try to run it down with a stethoscope or broom handle yet?
Clutch fluid: Same as brake fluid, you MUST get under there with a rag and determine if it is the clutch line or slave cylinder, or if it is a brake line. Probably the clutch slave, as it is on the drivers side at the back of the engine, correct? That's where the clutch slave is.
Steering: 50 years old, it's like taking a herd of goats down the road, isn't it? The fix: Replace everything that moves or has a joint in it in the steering linkage and kingpins. Over 50 MPH? You think the steering is trouble, have you tried the brakes?
Lock the doors: IIRC on the old man's '58 F600, you were supposed to push the door handles the opposite way of opening them. Maybe. Key work? We never locked ours, and again, the door lock hardware wasn't the highest feature of the truck.
You will get more info. This is going to be an adventure for you since it's the first one.
Yeah, about 20 goats to be exact. Will change out everything in linked to steering, any recommendations on kits? Also, any recommendations on drum to disc conversion kits? Thanks for the tips.
