The kids never want to ride in the x cause I have no tvs,
I went to a shop and looked at having headrests installed but dont like the fact that 7" is all you can go and the dvd player needs to be mounted in the center counsol.
Also the wife drives it allot and doesnt want a big fold down in her way.
Can I mount a fold down in front of the headrests?
Say a 13" drop down on each side, so the 3rd row can see them too?
Shop wants $3200 for 2 7" monitors installed and the player in the console, or costco sell the 13" flips for 700 installed each.
Ebay is always your better bet. You can pick up flipdown monitors with built in DVD players for about 200.00. Now as for the size, Iwill tell you this because I am speaking from experience. I opted to put in a 15.9" Flipdown, yeahI lost my rearview mirror, but thats no big deal. I also had the mount custom installed due to the patways of the rear ac ducts. I will say with the install it was nice, but if my kids sat in the second row, they could They woudl be so close up to the TV, that I had to force them to sit on the rear seating of the Ex. After that lasted for about a couple of weeks, I got rid of the 15.9 and was able to pick up a Clarion 10.2", and now it is perfect. The kids have no issue with the size, And can see the Tv just fine. And also if a shop wants to charge you 2300.00 to put TV's in, I would seriously look into another shop. I have seen custom jobs contract abour 2300.00 but 2 monitors installed they average price should be about 1000.00 and thats retail buying from them. Buy your own monitors, install them your self, there really isnt much to them.
audiovox has a built in dvd player in the monitor with aux inputs also
3600 is quite high. I can wlak you through the install if you want I am a car audio dealer in STL and am always glad to help.
If my memory serves me right, VaSheriff has a slick set up. He has a 2 screens mounted between two parallel bars that attach to the rear "grab handles" behind the front seat headrests. Very portable.
A picture will be worth a thousand words... Do a search... I remember him posting pics of his set-up (I think it was him). If I have time later I'll look too.
do you have your stock radio? bc if you dont you could get a double din and then have the dvd player in that and have the headrest screens fed by that and also have an input for whatever game system you want

My headunit is a cheap off brand i got on ebay.....works good for the price. The headrest monitors are Directed brand. Did the install myself. They have great picture too.
You kind of eliminated most of your options. If the screens are just for the kids benefit the headrests would be the way to go without blocking driver vision. I thought about a fold down but it seems to me there really isn't anywhere to mount it without it being right in your face or sitting in the third row
Hell there wasn't anything as cool as an Ex when I was a kid, you should buy a Chevy Chevette for a couple hundred bucks and cruise that around, they'll get a new found appreciation for the Ex
That they would, my first car was Chevy chevette....Chicks loved that..would tell them all I had a vett...
Anyway good ol days..
Might just do the headrest thing,, Ebay has some 8" monitors on ebay for dirt cheap, do you think that they would fit in the headrest...?
I love the 6 disc in the dash so I wont change the head unit..
Were do others put the dvd player or does everyone swap out the head unit..
I dont need tv up front..been there done that..I get too side tracked with cc on 75 watching smokin aces..
there is a hard plat in the headrest to mount these too right?
Could I hook the headrests up to a cheap walmart home dvd player with a converter under the seat?
U can always tell them to just look out the window... Thats what I tell my kids. Then take that money you saved and go to Jamaca with the wife.. he he he!!!
I never got to watch tv while driving I dont see why my kids should!!!! I dont think kids should watch tv all day and play with their CELL PHONES!!!
But if I did let my kids watch tv in the car then I would give them a mobile hand held unit so each of them can watch their own show. Plus when you get to your destination you can use it while camping or in the hotel room. Just a thought... save some money and be more practical. Dont have to tear into those $1000 seats neather!!!
