I have a '47 Ford 1 1/2 ton truck with an Eaton 2-speed rear end (vacuum controlled). I am wondering what the stock rear end ratio is and what I can do to bring it up to highway gearing. I checked into Brownies, but that would give me only .75 overdrive and I have no need for even more under drive.
I have read somewhere that 1960/70s IH truck rear gears could work (swapping either complete rear or just gears), but what exactly do I need to look for? I want to keep the stock 5 on 8 lug pattern.
Someone else suggested F500/600 - again, what years should I look for? Do these have the same lug pattern?
I am also looking for a 13-14 ft flat or stake bed, ideally with PTO drive tilt hydraulics for this truck.
Marcus, welcome to the site, I hope somebody can come along at some point and give you the info you need. I'm sure, as you have found, there are few options for ungrading these big trucks.
I hope you can find some help here, again, welcome to the site.
I'll check my manuals when I get home in 2 weeks, can scan the pages and send them to you if you want, they give an exploded view with all pertinant part numbers and specs(i.e. ratios)
