I've seen JBA's headers...but thats all is there any more companies that make decent headers for our trucks. Sound will come with them so I'm not concerned about that, but I'm in search of quality and power gain. Oh and one more thing....ceramic,stainless, or powdercoated???? THANKS IN ADVANCE!
unless you are going with a forced induction setup like me, the headers and high flow cats are just a very expensive gimmick for not alot of horsepower.
you'll gain about 15 HP, but then you'll need custom tunes for the O2 sensors and to maximize any gains you can make.
there are lots of cheaper/better things you can do right now to get some tire burning performance
shed some light please.... I honestly want to get out there to run with the "big" boys. I got dumped yesterday by a Ram1500....maybe because he was lowered and had street tires????
On another note a friend of Mine had custom turbos (name slips my mind) ordered for his truck so I'm waiting to see how that turns out compared to the roush supercharger.....but in the mean time I want to get the best bang for the buck!
Banks, Gibson, Ford Racing and Doug Thorley all make shorty headers. Dynatech is the only one I know of that makes a long tube system with hi-flow cats. I'd agree with Tylus on the gain, but it's not that bad a gain for a naturally aspirated engine. Personally, I'd get the ceramic coating just because of the heat reduction, but it's not a cheap option. If you can't afford that, get stainless. I doubt any have a powder coat, as it will not stand up to the heat.
I was thinking of getting some shorties for my truck mostly because I've had problems with Ford manifolds cracking on past trucks. A few more horsepower would be nice also. Anyone used shorties and a custom tune with success for fuel mileage gains and power gains towing?
batteries, the reason I say the Longtubes aren't worth it is the money spent.
A full longtubes setup with high flow cats will run you in the neighborhood of $1,500...plus install charges if you don't do it yourself. For a gain of 15-20 hp
Alternatively, you can install 4.56 gears for roughly that same amount. no HP gain will occur, but you will get a percieved gain of roughly 30-40 hp and the acceleration will be just pure fun...not to mention, the gears will completely offset those 35" tires you are running. alot of guys actually report their city MPG going back up after the change-out.
if you do end up going with headers, get the ceramics. they'll keep the heat inside the pipes and hopefully keep the engine bay looking decent. mainly for the heat protection though.
Dynatech has a really nice set out that FTE Ken (side admin) did a write-up on recently. They are the route I'll take someday when I have more money to blow
