97 F-250 manual. hi guys my turbo makes the damndest noise you ever heard when the truck is held at a constant rpm (like going down the road at 60mph or sitting still) but only between 1500 and 2500 rpm's. almost sounds and acts like a engine retarder, will really drag the power down. you can touch the fuel and it will go away until you try to resume a constant speed. by the way it is aftermarket downpipe and 4" straight pipe. and it only does it in the winter when it is 30 degrees or less. ANY IDEAS??? getting to be a pain in the rear, on a slick road it will lag the truck down enough to brake traction on the rear tires
Exhaust back pressure valve. Sounds like the whole exhaust note changes? If so, that's what it is. You can look just underneith the intake side of the turbo. there is a 2 wire plug just below it. Unplug it and see if that takes care of it.
Cody is spot on! its your EBPV. If the noise stops when the truck is warmed up its working normally but I hate the system so mine has been unplugged forever!
That was the straw that broke the camel's back for my wife. It put her in the ditch when it came on and she lost traction coming down a steep hill on a back road. She said, "Either make your stupid exhaust brake or take it out, NOW!" Wonder which one i did.
well guys unplugged the ebp valve and so far so good! just wanted to thank all of ya"ll dont know what i would do with out your help (probably make the stealership rich)
