Hello
New to the site. I have a 96 f350 crew cab 7.3 4x4. I just finish doing the whole truck over etc. My employee wrapped it around a telephone pole. The frame is not bent , the truck shift into gear no problem. The tach goes up but the spedometer only goes up a little bit. Does not want to shift out of 1 st gear. I check all fuses under the dash and under the hood. There is no damage to the transmission or engines , no codes coming up , maybe when he hit the pole he broke a sensor . Please help.
Also i need a whole new crew cab with doors. Where can i buy??
Thx in advance
This is a shot in the dark, but check the wiring harness from the speed sensor in the rear differential. That sensor is where your speedo reads from and I'm thinking maybe the wiring harness was pinched along the frame somewhere.
Ok thanks
Does that also control the electronic shifting for the tranmission. I have become the back yard mechanic , but not afraid to ask question. Is there anyway to test the sensor
Being a manual tranny guy I'm not sure exactly how the transmission sensors fit into the equation. What I think is happening is that the tranny is reading off your speedo, which isn't working, so it thinks you're only doing xx mph and doesn't know it needs to shift.
Also, the differential sensor (VSS) is only about a $20 dealer item, so it shouldn't be a big deal to replace it.
I found a website selling new truck cabs for 92-96 ford trucks. Here is the website:saturnsurplus.com/vehicles/<WBR>fordbody.htm
It looks like its preped for a new paint job and everything. The picture only shows a reg. cab, but there is a link on that site to where you can email them if you have questions. I would email them and if they don't have what your looking for, see if they can hook you up with some one else they may know.
Scott is on track.
Are you shure its 1st gear? The trans in electrical failure
will have a just 2nd gear for limp home.
Try and manually upshift the trans from 1,2,D.
See if it will upshift.
If you have access to a scan tool use it to watch Vss in realtime.
It will help to narrow down the issue.
Hello
I got under truck today. The manual 4 wheel drive lever bracket broke in the impact .
I took it off and manually shifted the transfer case . 2wd works and will try 4 wheel tom. Cab broke off cab mounts. Goes down road straight , a little vibration
