Those running Rotella syn

Do you just swap the filter and add a few quarts at 3000 or do you change everything out?

I'm do for an oil change and thinking of making the switch to syn.

Most if not all oil brands make a synthetic blend. They can't mix to badly.

Get the truck up to operating temps, change the oil and filter being careful of the hot oil and refill with the synthetic and your on your way. When i switched over to synthetic from dino i went 5000 on the first synthethic change then to 10,000 intervals after, good luck.

Whenever i change the oil, the filter gets changed also. I run 10,000 miles and oil and filter get changed also, on the synthetic that is. So no, i keep the filter in there the full 10,000. I started the synthetic at 15,000 miles and i got 112,000 with no problems. I,m going to run an oil analysis on this oil change to see how everythings doing in there. Theres a few fellas on here that got oil test to see how there oil is working in their trucks and they should be by soon.

Wink

I don't think there is any need to mix dino and syn anymore to get engines and seals used to it.
Years ago when synthetic was first on the market it would basicly clean everything up inside the engine including the seals, and IF there was anyplace that was kind of plugged up by the dino oil the synthetic would find it and you'd have a leak.
That was then and this is now, synthetics have come a long way, everyone that I have spoken with just changed to the synthetic all in one oil change including the filter, and everything was alright with no problems, I have heard that some people use dino in summer and synthetic in winter, but here in Florida I swaiched to synthetic and never plan on switching back, I use the Shell Rotella mainly because its so redily available at Wal-Mart.

No need to mix -- just drain, change filter (put almost 2 quarts in the filter), then put the rest in the engine. Run as usual. I generally change mine at about 7k so I don't have to screw with OAs (Oil Analysis). I think if you're going to push it (even syn) past 8k, you should be checking things with an OA, but that's my own opinion. I prefer to KNOW I have good oil in there, while compromising on a little longer OCIs over dino.

Good luck! You'll love the syn -- made a nice difference in how my truck runs, so it's worth it to me. When you do yours, put a little fresh dino and the same amount of fresh syn in a container you can see through and put it outside (if it's cold out) or in the freezer if it's warm. After the samples are nice & cold, try pouring both out. You'll be convinced.

Oh, and I use nothing but Motorcraft filters.

I have rotella synthetic in mine, and been so for a while. Last two changes, I sent in at 7500 miles, to Blackstone, to get analyzed. They said both changes were well below the average PSD, and to run to 10k the next change. Mind you my next change will probably be next month, on its 200k birthday. I feel as though I should wax it.
