Complete Transmission oil swap

So I know this has been beat to death but I looked through all the threads I could find and could not find an anwswer.

1. What diameter of hose, and material are you guys using for putting on the transmission line?

2. The line that we are connecting this hose to, it needs to be how long?

3. Why has guzzle not wrote an article on this? I love that page.

4. Do we have any success stories?

Comparing the time and cost of a full flush every 30K vs my method of draining the 6 qts from the pan at every oil change, I still think my method is the best, and it keeps the fluid consistently fresher. If anyone's interested I can find the tables that have disappeared from my original post and repost them.

My method for changing ATF, what do you think?

Little update. Did the trans oil change this weekend. Everything went pretty good. I followed the article exactly. I never got air bubbles so I just had my helper shut the engine off at 2 gallons. should have stopped at one. The only real problem came when I put the transmission in gear. The oil shot out the hole where the cooler line goes in, caught most of it though.

Questions:
1. Tried to warm up the tranny but dont know if I got it warm enough. what happens if you dont warm it up enough.

2. Is it bad to be too full of fluid? and Why is it bad?

If you don't warm it up enough oil will shoot out of the fitting on the trans where you removed the cooler line.

Yes, it's very bad. If it's high enough that the rotating parts are hitting the fluid it will whip the ATF into foam. That will both greatly expand it's volume and reduce it's lubricating properties to almost zero. So now your trans has little lubrication AND it can force that foam out of the vent and/or the dipstick. This hot oil can land on the even hotter exhaust, and that means FIRE!

So what is the best way to test the fluid level on our trucks?

So does that mean that I did not get all the old fluid out of the tranny, because I did not heat it up enough?

The guage on the dash showed it was a warm as it always gets.

Thanks Mark.

You've experienced some of the issues that are additional reasons why I think my method is the best!

To test the fluid level the tranny needs to be up to full operating temp, during the test drive to do this manually engage all the gears, then park on a level spot because the truck needs to be level both front to back and side to side to get an accurate reading, select neutral and apply the emergency brake, the level should be at least half way up in the "hot" band and for sure not above it. You can also start it up cold, engage each gear, and then put it in neutral, and the level should be in the "cold" band.

You can also check in park. It's exactly the same for checking fluid level, but it's much less likely to roll away in park.
