What size tires can I clear stock?

2000 Excursion 7.3 Limited. 4 wheel drive. I have 285/75-16 Michelins on it that my dad put on there. I wanna go back to BFG All Terrains. What's the biggest size i can clear with the stock suspension? And how about with a leveling kit? I'm also thinking about leveling springs in the front. Thanks.

I had 35's on my old Superduty before I leveled it, and with the leveling kit, it looked awesome. I am also curious if the 35's will clear on the Ex, thinking about putting some on, then leveling it, or maybe one of those hanger kits on Fleebay for 3"@ 159.00....and some blocks out back.

This is why I don't like the suburban. My truck has the stock size, and it looks like I have normal size tires. The suburban looks like it's running on 4 donuts when they are on the truck, by comparrison to the truck's size. The tires look to have a good size ratio on the Excursion. I've considered upgrading width, but don't feel the need to upgrade OD. Not to say I won't, but I don't feel a pressing need to do so.

I think the four wheel drive Excursions sit an inch or two lower than four wheel drive Superduties...

305 70 16's definitely fit. I have them on my 03 4X4 V10. That is on the stock wheels and junk factory springs. I have no rubbage.

Excellent. Is the sidewall bulge pretty intense with tires that wide on the stock width wheels? Can you get them to wear evenly or are they wearing in the middle?

I know 315's will not fit on a stock EX. 305x70x16 might fit on a stock rim with no rub... but that means you are only using a 16x7 rim. Tire says narrow and looks smaller that it should. If you put a 305 70 16 tire on a 16x8 rim from what I have HEARD FROM THIS SITE... you get some rub at full turn with a STOCK EX. A 285x75x16 tire is only 1/2 inch smaller across than a 305x70x16... it is the same height. Roughly 33 inch. I am running a 16x9 inch rim with a 285x75x16 tire... no rub. My brother is running a 305 70 16 on a 16x8 inch weld rim on his truck. When we park our trucks next to each other the tires look the same size. The smaller/wider rim gives the allusion of a much bigger tire. EX: 16 inch rim VS. 20 inch rim. The 16 inch tire will look much beefier (bigger) than the 20 inch with the same tire mounted.

Actually, my tire size choice would have been 285's with the stock rim. I have to let more air than I want to out of the tires to get them at full contact. They look good as far as having more meat on the road, but the bulge is there at the sidewall. I plan on later getting wheels and tires and these are to get me through. In the past, I have had 305's on 3 Super Duties- all with factory wheels and they wore fine.

Looks like I'll stick with 285/75s and go back to BFGs when the time comes. Thanks guys.
