front axle acuater For 4x4
I have a 98 expy and am having trouble with a4wd, 4wd ,4wdl checked to hear if the shift motor was engaging on the TC, and yes I can hear a clicking noise coming from under the the truck.( assume it is OK) Local ford buff said that these trucks have a vacuum system that is tied to sensors in TC and to the dash switch. He explained that these vacuum hoses run down to the actuator on the axle and this engages the front axle into" locking mode." Under the truck I found these hoses and traced them up wards. they pass through a spice-type thing then on to the the firewall to some sort of solenoid with incoming vacuum. As I traced these vacuum lines lines I found the red one broken and several cracks and the red ones to be very brittle. My question is can I replace these hoes with standard vacuum hose or do I need the ford "Vacuum hose harness"? if such a beast is available?
