Purchase Questions

Hi All

I am looking at a 97 Expedition to replace my 94 F150. It has 108,000 miles on it. My questions are what kind of fuel mileage should I expect and what can you fit in the back? I am a hobbyist woodworker. Can I get 8 ft board in the back with the seats folded down and still shut the rear door?

Thanks
Marty

My 06 can haul 8' long boards with the door closed, so I assume the 97 model can do (though they are different generations). I tend to use my Expy more as a covered pick-up truck in the seats-folded-down position than anything. Mileage - expect about 10 in town and up to 18 on the highway. Love the Expeditions - go for it!

Board or panel? Boards shouldn't be a big deal and you can always thread between the front seats if need be. If I remember correctly my 99 could just barely take 4x8 sheets with the front seats forward. My brothers with rear air could not, because the AC unit was under the rear quarter window and took away floor space.

[/IMG]I have a 97 expy with a 4.6L it gets a average of 12mpg. I have gotten 16mpg on highway with no city driving. Yes you can get a 4x8 in the back with the front seats moved forward.

Thanks for the answers! This one is at a local dealer, I called about it today and he wants $3,000 over what Kelly Blue Book says it is worth. I think I will keep looking!

What's wrong with the F-150? Is it a 4x4?

I hope you're short, with the seats in the full forward position your knees will be shoved into the dash if your not.

will it fit?

I have a 98 Expy and you can fit 4x8 materials in the back with the middle seats folded forward. I'm 6'2", so you can still drive it with the seat forward a bit.

For what its worth, I just sold my 97 Expedition XLT 4x4 5.4L with 108,000 miles in good condition for $4,300. Don't recall ever putting any 8 footers in it. But I don't think they will fit unless you slide them in between the front seat which is no big deal. Or you can just leave the rear window open and stick them out that way. Again no big deal.

Nothing wrong with my truck, with the addition of a couple of grand kids, I don't have a vehicle that we can fit everybody in.

KBB lists retail at $4,900 to $5,300 and the dealer wants $7,900. So I will keep looking.

Most of my wood working is with pine boards, the ability to fit 4X8 sheets would be bonus but I have a trailer if I need it.

Thanks!

Never go by KBB or NADA. They do not give real world prices. The closest I have seen for what cars are actually selling for is Edmunds. I just bought an 01 Expy Eddie Bauer 4x4 fully loaded with only 70,000 miles for $6,900. I really low balled the original price of $9,500 and stuck with it. In this ecomomy you can get very good deals if you don't cave in to them.

I agree that Edmunds is a great resource and authority on cars and trucks, however, the banks and dealers are using NADA and KBB. I believe that these two references are published soley for thier benefit. With that said, one must reference these two pubs as well as Edmunds to get the full picture, IMHO.

My '04 Expy is basically worthless on the resale market. A savvy shopper should be able to get a great on a gas guzzler right now.

I looked it up on Edmunds and it gives about the same as KBB.
