2000 EB cold start idling problem

When cold starting, below freezing, I have an intermittent idle problem. The engine cranks over no problem, but will not start/idle unless I use the gas pedal. I can drive it, but have to use the gas pedal to keep it running. After driving a few miles, it continues as the truck warms up. When warm, I can take it out of gear and it'll idle between 400-500 rpm. It only happens once a week or so. Is there an IAC or some other sensor that needs to be cleaned?

Thanks, Adam

I'd go with IAC

Either IAC cleaning or a leak in a vacuum hose. Either way should be an EZ fix once you can pin point it. Clean the IAC first which is easy, just kid of hard to reach being at the rear of the throttle body. Just undo the two bolts holding it and electrical connector.

IAC doesnt really have much to do with the cold... unless u have moisture or something in there that is freezing up up until the car is warm... but any idle prob i ever had, and what u are describing was the IAC, and it happened consistantly regardless of weather... id pull that IAC valve outta there and give it a good cleaning...or buy a new one if u want peace of mind... i usually just get a new one.
If u have a 4.6 this is a 5 min job... if you have the 5.4, good luck, its a pain getting that thing out!
