1998 Expi. 5.4 I just had a exhaust shop put on 2 ,18" Glass Packs and run dual exhaust... $500.00.. I told the guy I wanted that deep throaty rumble. I get it back and there is no change in sound...NOTHING..... What gives....I looked under and I see...Header pipe to cat, o2 sensor, then 18' Glass packs tail pipe 3" tips. He told me thats as loud as it will get.....Loud my *** the sound didnt change.....Any thoughts.
Should have gotten some Flowmasters. I got single in single out Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow SUV on mine and it's loud. I can easily hear it coming over a half mile away when someones driving it and turning down our road. If you need louder get Flowmaster 40 or 44.
Glasspacks sound like crap to me, like firecrackers. They don't do any deep rumbles for cam engines.
What would be the best sounding flowmaster....(Throaty sound)....Also Ive been told that the Expi's will never sound loud, unless you remove the cats is this true.

No this is not true. The 4 cats (2 pre and 2 main) are very high flow and offer almost 0 restriction. I have heard my expy with straight pipe (just cats) and while it's just barely street legal, the sound has no structure, no authoritative grumble. That's why I went with a muffler. I love the 50 Delta Flow. Much deeper than the 50, perfect for SUV's. The 40 and 44 are louder, but I don't like it being that loud. The passengers would go crazy, and when you're driving upwards of 1,000 miles a day, that would be unbearable cruising.
Here's my youtube channel where you can see two vids of the exhause, one inside the other outside. YouTube - heymrdjCW's Channel
